We deliver power to Tasmanians. Our vision is to be trusted by our customers to deliver today and create a better tomorrow.

We own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution network in Tasmania. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 295,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. We facilitate the transfer of electricity between Victoria and Tasmania via Basslink, the sub-sea electricity interconnector. We also provide telecommunications and technology services.

About the role

The Contract Manager – Distribution and Transmission is responsible for leading TasNetworks’ contractor-delivered program of work across the state, ensuring critical network construction and maintenance activities are delivered safely, efficiently and to a high standard. With accountability for a portfolio of circa $40 million in annual work, this role provides both strategic direction and operational oversight across multiple delivery contracts. A key focus will be guiding the transition to a new Delivery Partner model while ensuring continuity of delivery, strong performance outcomes and alignment with business priorities.

Reporting into a senior leadership team, this role oversees the contractor delivery operating model and leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for planning, governance, commercial performance and delivery outcomes. Acting as the primary interface with delivery partners, the Contract Manager influences decisions that impact safety, cost, schedule, quality and customer outcomes across the portfolio. This position combines commercial leadership, operational decision-making and continuous improvement, ensuring contractors are well positioned to meet future delivery requirements while maintaining accountability and performance.

Responsibilities also include:

  • Lead the end-to-end delivery of the contractor-delivered Distribution and Transmission program, managing work readiness, prioritisation, packaging, regional sequencing, contractor performance, and financial outcomes to ensure safe, efficient and high-quality outcomes.
  • Establish and mature the contractor delivery operating model, including governance, capability, systems and transition to the Delivery Partner framework.
  • Manage portfolio performance, forecasts and commercial outcomes, including budgets, pricing, variations, claims and contractual obligations.
  • Drive contractor performance and accountability through proactive governance, complex negotiations, performance improvement initiatives, recovery planning and management of contractual risks and escalations.

About you

You're a respected leader with extensive senior experience managing a portfolio of complex service, works or delivery-partner contracts within the electricity, utilities or infrastructure sectors. Combining strong project and portfolio management capability with a deep understanding of distribution and transmission construction, maintenance and operations network delivery, you're able to translate long-term investment plans into safe, practical and commercially sound outcomes. Your experience allows you to assess delivery readiness, manage competing priorities and maintain oversight of complex programs while ensuring work is delivered to the required standards of safety, quality, cost and schedule.

Known for your sound judgement and balanced approach, you build credibility through clear communication, commercial discipline and a focus on accountability. You lead teams with confidence, establish strong working relationships with delivery partners and are comfortable navigating complex contractual and operational challenges. Others value your ability to identify risks early, solve problems pragmatically and create an environment where continuous improvement and high performance are expected.

You’ll also bring:

  • Relevant Tertiary qualifications or equivalent substantial industry experience
  • Extensive experience leading large-scale project and portfolio delivery within electricity, utilities or infrastructure environments.
  • Proven ability to influence and drive delivery outcomes across diverse stakeholder groups, working collaboratively in environments where accountability and decision-making are shared across multiple functions and delivery partners.
  • Strong technical understanding of distribution and transmission construction, maintenance and operation.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing delivery operating models and leading organisational and contractual change within a multi-provider environment.
  • Highly developed commercial acumen across contract strategy, pricing, claims, variations, dispute resolution and performance management.
