We own, operate and maintain the electricity transmission and distribution network in Tasmania. We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 295,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. We facilitate the transfer of electricity between Victoria and Tasmania via Basslink, the sub-sea electricity interconnector. We also provide telecommunications and technology services.
About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join our business at a pivotal time in the energy industry. To meet the changing needs and development in our industry, our Legal Services team is growing and we are seeking two committed and experienced Corporate Counsels to join us within our Regulated team across a broad range of practice areas.
Working in a Corporate Counsel role at TasNetworks you will be responsible for providing current and relevant legal expertise to the business enterprise group, driving impactful decisions and ensuring alignment with both business and legal requirements.
Joining a professional and contemporary team, your duties may include:
- Providing high quality, efficient and effective independent legal advice and support on a wide range of issues in the regulated business in relation to day-to-day operations and strategic direction, with a particular focus on contracts, energy law, regulation and compliance;
- Building and maintaining effective working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders;
- Supporting the knowledge sharing and capability uplift within the Legal Services team in support of continuous improvement initiatives.

About you
You will have a commercial, pragmatic and flexible approach to delivery legal services, with proven experience in commercial and/or contract law.
Operating in a dynamic and complex business environment, you will have a demonstrated ability to influence, negotiate and communicate with a range of stakeholders, and show innovation and assume responsibility in making informed decisions for your area. An understanding of the regulatory framework in which TasNetworks operates will also enable you to deliver effectively.
You will also have an ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively with a high level of integrity, professionalism, and commitment to ethical conduct.
You will bring a tertiary qualification in law, holding a current Tasmanian legal practising certificate. A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience as a legal practitioner is highly desirable.
