About the role
Band 5 - base salary from $121,231 per annum (plus super) - total package to be negotiated with preferred candidate based on skills and experience
TasNetworks is seeking a skilled Project Estimator to support the delivery of electricity infrastructure projects across Tasmania. In this role, you’ll work on a mix of standard and bespoke projects, building accurate, defensible estimates that inform investment, planning and delivery decisions across our capital and operating programs.
You’ll be involved from the earliest stages of new work—reviewing scope, identifying gaps and risks, visiting site, understanding what’s required to deliver the work, and translating this into clear implementation plans and cost estimates. This is a hands-on, analytical role that sits at the intersection of engineering, construction and project delivery.
The responsibilities of the role include:
- Developing accurate cost estimates for capital and operational projects.
- Defining scope, risks, assumptions and delivery approaches for new work.
- Estimating labour, materials, equipment and contractor costs.
- Undertaking site visits to support practical, buildable estimates.
- Producing consistent estimates using SAP and standard work models.
- Maintaining estimating data and cost databases.
- Supporting resource planning and forecasting.
- Analysing performance data to improve estimate accuracy.
- Preparing reports and presenting cost insights to stakeholders.
About you
You bring strong technical judgement, attention to detail and the ability to turn complex information into practical cost insights. You’re comfortable working across new and unfamiliar scopes of work, asking the right questions and collaborating closely with delivery teams.
You’ll have:
- Trade or tertiary qualifications in electrical distribution, engineering, quantity surveying, project management, business or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated experience producing project estimates using specialist estimating tools and systems.
- Strong knowledge of ERP platforms (such as SAP) and their application in estimating and planning.
- Experience with engineered work standards and cost breakdown structures.
- High-level analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence presenting data and influencing outcomes.
- Experience in workforce/resource planning, estimating databases and reporting.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to data integrity and quality.
