We deliver a safe, cost-effective and reliable electricity supply to more than 295,000 residential, commercial and industrial customers. We facilitate the transfer of electricity between Victoria and Tasmania via Basslink, the sub-sea electricity interconnector. We also provide telecommunications and technology services.
About the role
TasNetworks is seeking an experienced Construction Manager – Distribution & EHV Lines to lead the delivery of transmission line and substation connection works for the North West Transmission Developments (NWTD). This role provides critical on‑site leadership across multiple regional locations, ensuring contractors, field teams, and stakeholders deliver high‑quality work that meets specifications, safety standards, and project requirements.
With extensive site presence, you will oversee construction activities from planning through to commissioning, coordinate logistics and contractor interfaces, and ensure all work is delivered safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with project specifications. You will play a key role in driving performance across complex work fronts, resolving technical and logistical challenges, and maintaining consistent delivery across all transmission line packages.
This is a hands‑on leadership role suited to someone with deep HV/EHV construction expertise and the ability to manage contractors, field operations, and project interfaces in a major infrastructure environment.
What you’ll do
- Oversee and audit construction contractors to ensure capability, compliance, and quality
- Enforce strict adherence to safety regulations, building codes, and environmental standards
- Supervise field personnel, inspectors, and subcontractors, resolving issues and fostering high performance
- Coordinate logistics, materials, permits, and contractor interfaces across multiple sites
- Monitor construction progress, prepare reports, and resolve technical and logistical challenges
- Manage risks, delays, and resource gaps to maintain delivery consistency
- Serve as the primary contact for contractors and internal teams, ensuring clear communication and expectations
- Travel between regional sites to oversee multiple concurrent projects
About you
You bring extensive experience in the construction and delivery of transmission line or substation projects, particularly within HV/EHV environments. You have a strong understanding of construction methodologies, safety systems, and quality control, and you are confident interpreting electrical drawings, schematics, and project documentation. Your technical capability includes a thorough understanding of the Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) sequence of work, from foundations through to final sag and commissioning.
You communicate clearly and effectively, translating complex information into practical insights for contractors, delivery partners, and technical teams. You are experienced in managing conflict and resolving issues on complex or high‑profile projects, including those operating in politically sensitive environments. You bring a collaborative, solutions‑focused approach to field leadership and thrive in dynamic, multi‑site construction settings.
Tertiary qualifications in engineering (electrical preferred), construction management, project management, or a related discipline are desirable, and experience within regulated utility or government‑owned environments is an advantage.
