The role
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Marine Operations Officer to join our team on a 12-month fixed-term contract. This role is critical in supporting the Marine Operations division with day-to-day activities related to shipping movements and general maintenance. You will play an essential part in ensuring the safe and efficient arrival and departure of vessels across TasPorts’ ports.
Key Duties
- Provide marine expertise and operational support for shipping and maintenance activities.
- Communicate effectively with management, Vessel Traffic Services, and port stakeholders.
- Assist with port emergency responses, including drills and training.
- Collaborate with stevedores, agents, customers, and port users on operational matters.
- Deliver services and support to vessels while in port.
- Perform planned maintenance and rectify vessel defects.
- Maintain compliance with the vessels’ cloud-based Safety Management System.
- Undertake duties aligned with operational requirements as directed by management.
- Participate in a 24/7 roster to ensure safe and efficient shipping movements.
- Carry out other duties as required within your qualifications and competence.

You have strong communication skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Your technical proficiency and problem-solving skills enable you to manage priorities effectively while delivering exceptional service.
What you will have
Essential:
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC).
- Current Master Class 5 certification.
- Current MED II certification.
- Current Provide First Aid certification.
- Unrestricted Tasmanian driver’s licence.
Desirable:
- Experience in shipping or marine operations.
- Knowledge of port emergency response procedures.
