The role

As the Specialist Emergency Management, you will lead and continually drive the implementation of TasPorts’ Crisis and Emergency Management Framework (CEMF). You’ll partner across all business units to deliver a robust, future-focused approach to crisis readiness, emergency response, exercising, and business continuity.
This position plays a key role in building organisational resilience, embedding best-practice systems, and ensuring TasPorts is prepared to respond effectively to any event that may impact operations across the state.

Key Duties

In this role, you will:

  • Represent TasPorts professionally with internal and external stakeholders across maritime, aviation, and emergency services sectors.

  • Plan and deliver projects that support the integration and ongoing maturity of the CEMF.

  • Manage the day-to-day maintenance of the Crisis & Emergency Management Framework, including Business and Port Continuity Plans.

  • Oversee the upkeep and auditing of emergency response equipment, communication systems and relevant technologies.

  • Develop and deliver statewide testing and exercise schedules to ensure preparedness.

  • Conduct post-exercise reviews and drive continuous improvement across all emergency management functions.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Police, Fire, Defence, and Critical Infrastructure partners.

  • Support the Harbour Master with oil spill contingency arrangements, including training and equipment exercises.

  • Represent TasPorts at Municipal, Regional and State Emergency Management Committees.

  • Coordinate crisis and emergency response actions, notifications, and escalation processes as required.

  • Undertake additional duties as directed by the Manager Security & Business Resilience.

About you

You bring a strong background in emergency management and business continuity, combined with the leadership and relationship-building skills needed to influence at all levels. You’re calm under pressure, proactive, and capable of applying sound judgement in complex and rapidly evolving situations.
You thrive in operational environments, excel at stakeholder engagement, and are known for driving continuous improvement in systems, processes, and organisational capability.

What you will have

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in emergency management and business continuity within a multi-site, state-wide or national organisation.

  • Experience within maritime, aviation or other high-risk operational environments.

  • Emergency Exercise Evaluation certification.

  • Completion of the NCTC Advanced Emergency Exercise Writing Course (or equivalent).

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Maritime Security Identification Card (MSIC) or Aviation Security Identification Card.

  • Current driver’s licence and flexibility for periodic intrastate travel.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of marine oil spill management practices.

  • Management Systems Auditing certification.

  • Experience developing online training content.

  • Cert IV in Workplace Health & Safety.

  • Cert IV in Training & Assessment.
