The Opportunity
The TasWater Summer Placement Program is a 12-week program where students gain exposure and work experience in the unique water and wastewater industry.
We have a Law/Audit & Risk position for the 2023 program that runs from 13 November 2023 to 9 February 2024 in Hobart.
You'll actively work with our Risk and Resilience Team on reviewing and improving our risk tools, and incident management framework. You'll have a dedicated mentor and make invaluable industry contacts.
The Summer Placement Program is a great first step to a career at TasWater - former student Pei shares her experience below:
Peizhe Ma, Operations Systems Planner
I came to UTAS from Zhengzhou in northern China. The Summer Placement
Program has been an invaluable experience for me. I gained significant hands-on
experience at such a big water utility company. I had the opportunity to visit
various assets and observe their operations, including water treatment plants
and sewer treatment plants. I also had the opportunity to develop my own
program, known as the Database Checker Tool, to enhance support for both the
business and our community.
I currently work as an Operations Systems Planner in the Operational
Planning Team. My team was initially to act as a support function for the
Operations Centre (OC) and operators. Some examples include providing software
and technical support for OCs, incident investigation and management, and more.
My current primary projects involve SCADA auditing to identify statewide
headend SCADA system interface-related issues and SCADA alarm rationalization
to reduce the number of after-hours alarms.
