The Role

We are seeking an engineer to provide high‑quality water and/or wastewater engineering solutions that support TasWater’s long term planning objectives. In this role, you will work across complex engineering programs, apply established methodologies to challenging asset and system issues, and contribute to the long‑term performance, risk management, and reliability of our network assets. You will collaborate with engineers, specialists and operational teams to deliver safe, compliant and customer‑focused outcomes, while supporting continuous improvement in asset planning, documentation and service delivery.

Key responsibilitlies:

  • Apply established engineering methods to investigate and resolve complex water and wastewater challenges, providing accurate, compliant and practical solutions.
  • Conduct research, analysis and modelling to support engineering reports, technical documents, business cases and asset‑planning initiatives.
  • Contribute to engineering programs and asset‑performance improvements, including identifying strategic initiatives to reduce residual risks across network assets.
  • Apply asset‑risk and criticality frameworks to help determine risk profiles, understand system performance and support long‑term investment planning.
  • Manage and maintain technical standards to support technical leads and ensure consistency across the business.
  • Support water resources activities through research, analysis and reporting, including the application of relevant software and analytical tools.
  • Maintain high standards of engineering documentation by preparing, interpreting and continuously improving plans, drawings, specifications and related records.
  • Promote safety, environmental awareness and customer outcomes by adhering to TasWater’s zero‑harm philosophy and site safety requirements.

What we're looking for

We are seeking an engineer who can support long‑term planning and the development of water and wastewater infrastructure. You will bring strong analytical capability, sound technical judgement and the ability to coordinate planning activities that contribute to TasWater’s strategic objectives.

Key Attributes and Experience

  • A degree in Civil, Environmental, Water or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent competency relevant to the discipline.
  • Experience supporting strategic master planning or long‑term infrastructure development.
  • Strong research, analytical and project development skills, including coordination of consultants.
  • Proficiency with engineering and modelling software such as InfoWorks, with the ability to interpret technical data and modelling outputs.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including preparing technical reports and documentation.
  • Understanding of water/wastewater systems, safety legislation and safe work practices.

The Details

This role can be based in either Hobart, Launceston, or Devonport and attracts a salary of $103,701.29 - $109,462.48 (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.
