The Role
We’re looking for an Operational Support and Improvement (OSI) Engineer to join our team, with a strong focus on supporting our Wastewater Treatment Operations team. This role plays a key part in process monitoring, troubleshooting, and driving continuous improvement across our treatment systems. While technical capability is essential, we’re equally seeking someone with excellent skills — someone who can work collaboratively with operators, environmental specialists, and broader stakeholders through respectful communication and effective peer‑to‑peer engagement.
In this role, you will:
- Support the Wastewater Treatment Operations team through process monitoring, system assessments, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement activities.
- Assess and optimise treatment systems and networks to enhance reliability, performance, quality, and cost outcomes.
- Build strong working relationships across Operations and Environmental teams, using clear, respectful communication and solid stakeholder engagement skills.
- Provide engineering and technical solutions, contributing to optimisation projects, technology trials, and the identification of capital improvements.
- Prepare and maintain accurate engineering documentation, reports, and data to support compliance, decision‑making, and operational effectiveness.
- Promote a proactive, safety-first culture while contributing to a collaborative and supportive team environment.

What we're looking for
We’re seeking an engineering professional with solid technical foundations and strong communication skills — someone who can confidently support operational teams, interpret complex engineering information, and contribute to continuous improvement across our water and wastewater systems. You’ll bring a mix of practical problem‑solving ability, stakeholder engagement, and the capacity to work safely across a variety of environments.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent demonstrated competency, with strong understanding of engineering principles and standards.
- Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence, coach and engage effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret technical plans, drawings and specifications, supported by strong computer and engineering‑software skills.
- Proven experience applying engineering problem‑solving skills, including managing cost, scope and time considerations across projects.
- Knowledge of relevant health and safety legislation and Codes of Practice, plus understanding of engineering project life cycles; C‑class driver’s licence required.

The Details
This role can be based in Devonport (preferably) or Launceston. Travel between sites across North-West Tasmania will be required (using a TasWater vehicle). The role offers a salary range of $103,701.29 - $109,462.48 per annum (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable based on experience.
