The Role
TasWater is looking for an experienced and community‑minded Senior Operator – Urban Networks to help deliver safe, reliable and compliant water and sewage services across our urban networks. Working closely with the Coordinator and Operations and Maintenance teams, you’ll play an important part in supporting day‑to‑day operations while contributing to a positive, collaborative and safety‑focused work environment.
This role is well suited to someone who enjoys a balance of hands‑on operational work and coordination, takes pride in doing things well, and is comfortable supporting others and stepping into an acting leadership role when needed.
- Support the planning and delivery of daily operations by assisting the Coordinator with scheduling, rostering, resource planning, purchase orders and administrative tasks, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and in line with policies and service standards.
- Operate and maintain water and sewage infrastructure, including conducting sampling, in‑system treatment and asset condition assessments, to support drinking water quality and effluent compliance.
- Champion safety, quality and compliance by following TasWater’s health, safety, environmental, quality and security requirements, completing risk assessments, and contributing to a strong safety‑first culture.
- Work collaboratively and provide team support, actively contributing to the Operations and Maintenance team, sharing information with internal stakeholders, supporting improvement initiatives, and stepping into the Coordinator role in an acting capacity when required.
- Maintain accurate records and reporting, including operational logs, work data, customer service information and compliance reporting to support regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Assist with minor projects and after‑hours operations, including supervising contractor works where required and participating in on‑call and after‑hours rosters to help ensure continuity of service for our customers.

What we're looking for
We’re looking for an experienced and approachable professional who enjoys supporting teams, working hands‑on in operational environments, and contributing to safe and reliable service delivery. You’ll bring a practical mindset, sound judgement, and the confidence to guide others while remaining adaptable and collaborative in your approach.
- Proven experience in a similar supervisory role, with exposure to operational environments and people management, and the ability to support teams to work safely and effectively.
- Strong technical or trade experience, with transferable skills relevant to water, wastewater or utilities operations, and a willingness to continue developing your industry knowledge.
- Well‑developed communication, administrative and computer skills, enabling you to manage records, complete reporting, and communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders.
- A solid understanding of workplace health and safety, demonstrating a commitment to safe work practices and promoting a positive safety culture.
- Relevant licences and certifications, including a current White Card (Work Safely in the Construction Industry) and a valid C Class driver’s licence. First Aid Level II is desirable.
- Relevant qualifications and industry experience (desirable), including a Certificate IV in Water Industry Operations, Certificate IV in Leadership and Management, experience in the utilities sector, and familiarity with Management Operating Systems (MOS).

The Details
This role will be based in Hobart and attracts a salary of $96,694.49 - $102,066.44 (inclusive of superannuation), negotiable dependent on experience.
