What you'll contribute to
The Product Planning & Development Division is responsible for the Planning, Styling, Development, Evaluation and Regulation compliance of vehicles and Genuine Accessories. We design, develop and deliver unique global contributions towards ever better products so that we maximise the positive experience for our customers. The Development Engineer is primarily responsible for overseeing the development Genuine Accessories. The role encompasses scoping, collaborative design with a supplier, evaluating and approving products that meet Toyota Standard criteria, cost targets and timing in order to exceed customer expectations
This role is based in Altona North and is on Max Term basis
How you'll make an impact
- Establish project schedules based on key milestones, monitor status and implement corrective actions to ensure timely completion while working closely with stakeholders to meet design approval deadlines.
- Oversee technical feasibility studies, prepare engineering requirements for styling creation, lead project scope preparation for supplier selection, collaborate with suppliers throughout the development process and prepare approval documentation including evidence of compliance.
- Actively participate in project status meetings, communicate technical requirements, and provide ongoing support to ensure suppliers meet cost, performance, and timing goals.
- Rapidly identify root causes of issues, implement effective countermeasures, and lead reflection activities to prevent recurrence.

- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, with eligibility for National Engineers Registration (NER), or existing registration preferred.
- At least 4 years of hands-on engineering development experience, including project management expertise and ideally a strong understanding of automotive systems.
- Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA preferred) and familiarity with engineering documents and drawings, including GD&T. Knowledge of CAE principles is a plus.
- Good grasp of automotive systems and performance aspects, such as crash, durability, cooling, and bolted joints with experience in designing to achieve targets and evaluating them.
- Proven ability in methodical problem-solving, keen attention to detail, leadership skills, and effective stakeholder management and negotiation abilities.
