About the Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist to support our growing team. Based in North Sydney with a flexible/hybrid work environment, this role plays a key part in ensuring our Australian payroll is managed accurately, on time, and in full compliance with regulatory standards.
We’re flexible with how this opportunity is structured — it can be offered as a permanent full-time position or a part-time role (4 days per week) to suit the right candidate.
Reporting to the Group Payroll Manager, you will initially work with our external payroll provider to administer monthly and bi-monthly payrolls. As we transition to an in-house payroll model, you will take ownership of the full end-to-end payroll process and provide support on related finance and compliance matters.
As our Payroll Specialist you’ll be responsible for;
- Managing monthly and bi-monthly payroll processes, both through external providers and in-house, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Ensuring compliance with payroll-related legislation, including superannuation, taxation, leave entitlements, and termination requirements.
- Supporting payroll reporting and audits, including payroll tax lodgments, year-end reconciliations, and bonus calculations.
- Maintain accurate payroll records, manage employee self-service portals, and respond to staff queries in a timely and professional manner.
- Assist with payroll data entry, journals, reconciliations, and provide relevant payroll information for new business tenders.
- Act as the main point of contact for AX timesheet queries and undertake ad-hoc tasks as directed by the Group Payroll Manager.
What you’ll bring
As our successful candidate you'll bring:
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in payroll processing
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Experience with Sage Micropay and Microsoft Dynamics AX/D365 is highly regarded
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities
- Strong attention to detail, excellent Excel skills, and a proactive attitude
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- A sound understanding of Australian payroll legislation and best practices
