About Great River City Light Rail
Western Sydney is one of the fastest growing regions in our country, with the population of Greater Parramatta alone set to climb by 50 per cent by 2041 and at Great River City Light Rail we want to create new communities, connect great places and help locals and visitors move around and explore what the region has to offer. Spanning 12 kilometres the new Light Rail connects Westmead to Carlingford via the Parramatta CBD and Camellia, the new light rail vehicles will deliver comfortable, user-friendly and high-performance services. By 2026, around 28,000 people will use Parramatta Light Rail every day and an estimated 130,000 people will be living within walking distance of the light rail stops.
We have completed the installation of all track and light rail stop overhead canopies. Ongoing minor construction work continues, including the fit out of light rail stops, installation of power substations, light rail overhead wiring and underground cabling. In addition, the Stabling and Maintenance Facility at Camellia continues to be transformed into a world-class facility with works underway to fit out the administration building and fleet maintenance workshop.
The role
Based at our Camellia Depot and working in the brand-new Operational Control Centre (OCC) you will be at the heart of the operation. During the 12-week training program you will start your learning with a strong foundation of rail safe working which will be built on with PLR network fundamentals, Network Controller units such as stakeholder communications, national rail regulations, incident response frameworks, and emergency management. This will all come together when you enter the OCC, and you will learn to apply it practically using operator systems over another 6 weeks.
There is opportunity to be a part of Testing & Commissioning as a Controller which will strengthen your operator skills. As we move into passenger services the role will transition, supporting our Drivers and ultimately ensuring the network runs in a safe, secure and efficient manner.
What you bring
Your background may include exposure to rail or light rail networks or working within a control room, traffic management or monitoring centre environment. Regardless of your background and industry, high level communication skills and the ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure during network disruptions are critical. Whilst this role supports our large frontline team, you will also be able to work autonomously and can focus whilst managing the complexity of our network. Equally important is the positive attitude you bring to work, and the flexibility required to work rotating shifts in a dynamic environment. You will be passionate about being part of a workplace that is based on respect, promotes diversity, and encourages inclusiveness.
Our commitment to you
Because we are convinced everyone has something to offer, you will be joining a welcoming organisation that embraces diversity and invests in its people so you can make your mark, push boundaries, and reach your maximum potential. We believe that everyone deserves a fair chance, and we want every individual to embrace their strengths. Recognised as an AWEI Bronze employer we are committed to a diverse workforce which reflects the communities that we serve, creating a safe, supportive, and secure environment to bring your whole self to work.
By supporting a diverse workforce we also encourage candidates who require any reasonable adjustments during the application process to let us know. A full list of benefits and why we are recognised as an Endorsed Employer for Women by WORK180 can be seen on our Work180 page.
