Your Impact: IT Field Engineer
We’re looking for a skilled and conscientious IT Field Engineer with a customer-focused mindset to join our IT team supporting both operational and project-based initiatives, where required.
This is a fast-paced and exciting role responsible for the provision of on-site support and maintenance for IT infrastructure, software, and end-user hardware at your designated Transdev business entity sites – in this case you’ll work between our Sydney CBD Support Office (3 days per week) and our Great River City Light Rail Stabling and Maintenance Facility in Camelia (2 days per week).
As an IT Field Engineer you’ll maintain, install and configure network, computer, telecommunication and other technology systems as required. You also act as an extension to the centralised Transdev IT Service Desk for issues requiring on-site support and troubleshooting.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you’ll be the go-to person for all things technology — providing hands-on support, solving problems, and ensuring smooth IT operations across our sites. Your day-to-day will include:
Acting as the first point of contact for all technology-related queries and issues, delivering timely and effective support to end users.
Troubleshooting and resolving a wide range of hardware, software, network, and system faults — from laptops and printers to telephony, audiovisual, CCTV, and onboard systems.
Installing, configuring, and maintaining technology equipment and applications to keep systems running reliably and securely.
Managing and documenting support requests, incidents, and asset information in the IT Service Management (ITSM) system.
Prioritising and managing multiple open cases while maintaining clear communication and excellent customer service.
Working closely with higher-level support teams, vendors, and IT project managers to resolve complex issues and deliver IT projects or change initiatives.
Conducting site evaluations and providing technical advice on upgrades, maintenance, and system improvements.
Supporting IT procurement activities and maintaining vendor relationships in collaboration with the procurement team.
Guiding end users on new systems, best practices, and simple troubleshooting steps to empower effective technology use.
Ensuring all work complies with IT security policies and procedures to safeguard systems and data.
You’ll play a key role in connecting people and technology — providing reliable, professional support that keeps our teams moving.
What You Bring
Ideally, diploma or degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
Microsoft, Cisco, networking and/or ITIL certifications, highly regarded
Experience working with Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office
Experience with physical network infrastructure, patching and installation of network equipment
Hands-on experience with LAN/WAN setups, routers, switches, and wireless systems
Experience working directly with clients to resolve issues and deliver tailored solutions
Ideally, all-round experience in a number of different technologies and environments
A customer-focused mindset with empathy, patience, and strong communication skills.
Analytical thinking and a proactive, solutions-driven approach to problem-solving.
Flexibility under pressure, with strong time management and attention to detail.
A collaborative, team-oriented attitude balanced with the ability to work independently.
Commitment to continuous learning and delivering positive outcomes.
