The Opportunity
We are currently looking for Substations Technicians to undertake installation, maintenance and operation of substation assets. The role will require someone who has experience as an electrician. It is not necessary to have prior experience with high voltage network assets. This role will be working directly on our assets. A Substation Technician (fitter) is a field-based role.
As a developing Substations Technician you will undertake a comprehensive training program while gathering practical and technical expertise in substation electrical work. This includes fault finding, repairs, maintenance, installation, and commissioning of assets within Transgrid’s substations.
As your career progresses, higher grade Substations Technicians develop advanced levels of practical and technical proficiency becoming subject matter experts, providing mentoring and training to Substation Technicians and Apprentices.
All levels of experience will be considered.
Duties and Responsibilities
What we expect from you as a developing Substations Technician:
- Certificate III in Electrotechnology or equivalent Electrical Trades Course Certificate (electrician trade course)
- A current Australian Driver’s License
- Good oral and written presentation skills
- Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work both autonomously and in a team environment
- Prepared to work away from their nominated headquarters for a reasonable period of time
- Ability to interpret schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Willing to be included in a ‘on call’ roster to provide after-hours standby services and respond to system incidents
- Familiarity and experience with “Wiring Rules” and other Australian Standards
Skills & Experience
Supporting Skills and Qualifications (Not necessary)
- NSW Fair Trading Electrical Supervisor Certificate or Contractor Licence
- Experience in the maintenance, construction and commissioning of high voltage substation assets
- An understanding or willingness to understand Substation Secondary Systems
- An understanding of diagnostic testing techniques for substation apparatus
- Currently authorised or be willing and capable to obtain authorisation for High Voltage Switching
- Expertise in fault finding including the interpretation of schematic diagrams
