The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has become available for an Asset Engineer to join our dynamic and collaborative team.
This position contributes to achieving Transgrid’s asset management objectives by developing strategies for Transgrid’s assets (in the functional area of either Transmission Line and Cables) in order to achieve best practice performance as measured by cost, service standards, safety and environmental performance.
You will provide technical support, considering all stages in the asset lifecycle for direction and advice to the organisations future need for augmentation and development of the high voltage transmission network.
In addition, you will assist the Asset Manager and Asset Strategists to monitor, analyse and report on the risk and performance of transmission line and HV underground cable assets, analysing asset risk profiles, identifying trends and emerging issues from asset information, contributing to the asset management strategy and plan, establishing required spares holdings and conducting control assurance reviews.
Key Responsibilities
As an Asset Engineer you will:
- Contribute to the preparation of asset management strategies and plans in the relevant functional area
- Contribute to the development, communication and monitoring of asset management policies related to the functional area
- Contribute to the management of contracts for the supply of services and materials and the establishment of budgets for network wide strategies
- Assist with the preparation of submissions related to asset replacement revenue application and supporting documents
- Contribute to and/or advise Transgrid’s technical and field staff on the implementation of strategies, policies and plans in relation to the assets
- Support R&D in asset management within the relevant functional area
- Prepare and present reports on asset performance and plans for the future to a range of stakeholders
- Develop and apply Network Information System strategies and plans that relate to transmission lines and cables assets, including development and review of asset health index, probability of failure and consequence models
- Assist with investigations into equipment failures and performance of assets and contribute to the reports covering safety, environment, reliability and liability issues ensuring they are prepared in accordance with required time frames
- Effectively manage internal and external stakeholders and build positive relationships
Skills & Experience
To be successful in the role you will have:
- A degree in an Engineering discipline such as Electrical, Mechanical or Structural with experience in engineering practice, or relevant demonstrated experience in asset management functions and roles
- Well-developed technical knowledge and understanding of the design, construction, operation, maintenance or analysis of transmission lines and cables assets and equipment
- Sound understanding of the concepts and application of risk management
- Awareness of legal requirements relating to the construction and maintenance of high voltage equipment, safety issues and the environment
- Ability to apply both technical and economic components in the evaluation of options for solution of transmission lines and cables asset management issues
- Well-developed people and service management skills
- Excellent written communications skills for persuasive reports and submissions
- Highly-developed analytical, conceptual and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of various computer systems (in particular MS Excel). Knowledge of SQL is an advantage.
- Knowledge and experience in asset management and the various stages of asset lifecycle
