The Opportunity

Project EnergyConnect (PEC) will provide a new high voltage interconnector between New South Wales and South Australia. Transgrid’s portion of the project stretches 700 kilometres from Wagga Wagga to the South Australian border. The project is a critical part of Australia’s energy transition, supporting new large scale renewable generation and the implementation of the AEMO Integrated System Plan (ISP).

The $1.9 billion project has now entered the delivery phase following the award of the EPC Contract in June 2021 with major construction due to start in mid 2022.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Construction Manager who will be responsible to provide the delivery of an efficient construction service focusing on construction schedule performance, contractor management, quality, site safety leadership and commissioning coordination for Project Energy Connect. You will provide subject matter expertise and will work closely with all streams in the Project Energy Connect TransGrid team and the Delivery Partner to ensure a safe, efficient and socially responsible delivered project which in turn will benefit Australia’s transmission network capability.

In this role you will be responsible for:

  • Subject matter expertise to advise and provide input to Commercial and Contracts, Project Integration, HSE, Engineering, Property, Community and Stakeholder teams
  • Optimising resource allocation and planning to meet the project requirements
  • Ensuring all audit and other reporting and regulatory obligation requirements are dealt with in a timely manner
  • Ensuring you manage all project contracts and contractors in a commercial, consistent and professional manner across all facets of PEC construction
  • Negotiating with contractors and monitor contractor performance
  • Taking a proactive and leading role in site safety and environmental compliance
  • Ensuring all project is delivered in accordance with TransGrid Requirements & Contractors Work Health Safety & Environmental procedures & plans
  • Identifying and inputting into the Community and Stakeholder team to ensure community expectations in project planning and management
  • Developing effective working relationships to identify and satisfy stakeholder needs

Skills & Experience

  • Possession of Electrical or civil trade certificate and extensive High Voltage construction experience High level of experience in managing large construction sites
  • Qualifications in project management
  • Qualifications to Certificate IV in Work Health & Safety
  • Experience in the management a of large program of capital projects
  • Experience in contract management
  • Experience in negotiating project scope, cost, schedule and risk with contractors
  • Knowledge in the application of WHS, preferably Cert IV in WHS and environmental legislation relative to duties of the position
  • Competent in the application of risk management methodologies
  • Sound interpersonal skills that will facilitate the establishment of working relationships with stakeholders and peers
  • The ability to lead and manage a diverse workforce located over multiple sites
  • Resource and people management skills
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable ability to implement organisational change
  • Ability to spend a large amount of time away and on site which may be remote to the individual’s base location
  • NSW Driver’s Licence
  • General Construction Induction (White Card)
