Transgrid’s Network Connection team is responsible for facilitating new generator connections to NSW and ACT transmission system by undertaking technical assessment and due diligence of proposed connections to the Transgrid network from the Connection Application stage through to Registration and Commissioning.
The Opportunity

We are hiring for a Senior Engineer in the Network Connections team. The Senior Engineer is expected to undertake and lead technical analysis to assess proposed connections to Transgrid network and third-party customers. Working across the Network business unit, the Senior Engineer will author or review robust technical reports, develop network models and contribute to development of efficient power systems analysis and connection processes.
In this role, the Senior Engineer will:
- Perform the role of an experienced engineer in generator compliance assessments, performance standard negotiation and commissioning and provide technical support to other team members
- Lead or contribute to investigation of wide area system issues that impact the connections of new and existing generators and development robust network solutions with the support from Network Planning and Network Operations teams
- Authors or reviews concise and clear reports including reference documentation and provides presentations to stakeholders
- Support review of generator connection processes, policies, and guidelines to achieve improved team performance
- ensure understanding and engagement with vision, purpose, and strategic and stakeholder considerations individually and with the broader team
- work multiple large-scale projects simultaneously while maintaining a high level of follow through and communication with stakeholders
- Exemplifies collaborative behaviours to ensure stakeholder requirements are included, especially Asset Strategy and Network Operations
- Lead negotiations with stakeholders to build long lasting relationships with industry groups including AEMO
- Work and operate in a manner which supports the Health and Safety outcomes of our people and our business. The Health and Safety Management System is available on the intranet or upon request, and provides a comprehensive list of general responsibilities, accountabilities and authorities for all positions including managers, team leaders and employees
Skills & Experience
What we expect from you:
- Tertiary qualifications at degree level in an appropriate discipline, or equivalent relevant experience
- Experience in leading connection of synchronous and asynchronous generator projects.
- Excellent knowledge on Electrical Engineering principles, NER, GPS and associate technical assessments, generator protection, SCADA, and experience in generation, transmission or similar role
- Experience with PSS/E, PSCAD and power system modelling required. Experience with PowerFactory, SSAT, Mudpack software will be an advantage.
- Communicate effectively with a range of persons including customers, suppliers, contractors, other technical experts and senior management (written and verbal).
- Substantial experience in the legislation and technical standards guiding system planning
- Comprehensive understanding of risk management – qualitative and quantitative
- Excellent knowledge of electrical networks engineering and operations.
- Well-developed people and service management skills.
- Excellent written communications skills for persuasive reports and submissions.
- Well-developed analytical, conceptual, and problem-solving skills.
- Knowledge of the National Electricity Market and its impact on operations of the NSW HV network and Transgrid’s business
- Comprehensive knowledge of the energy industry
- Knowledge of quality assurance principles and experience with working in accordance with a Quality Assurance System.
- Knowledge and understanding of all relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Advanced programming skills in Python language for automation purposes are required.
