Join Us as Principal Engineer – Strategic Network Development

Are you ready to shape the future of energy in New South Wales? Transgrid is seeking a visionary and technical expert Principal Engineer – Strategic Network Development to lead the transformation of our transmission network. This is your opportunity to play a pivotal role in enabling the transition to renewable energy and decarbonisation, helping to deliver a smarter, cleaner, and more resilient electricity system.

The Role

The electricity landscape is evolving rapidly. With large-scale renewable energy zones emerging and traditional coal generation retiring, the NSW network faces unprecedented challenges and opportunities. Over the next decade, more than $8 billion will be invested in major transmission projects that this role will directly influence. As Principal Engineer, you will provide technical leadership, strategic vision, and project sponsorship with stakeholders to ensure the network meets tomorrow’s energy demands.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead a high-performing team developing major power system projects, planning studies, market modelling, and planning specifications.
  • Provide expert technical guidance and sponsorship across NSW transmission projects, collaborating with Energy Co, AEMO, and other state Transmission Network Service Providers.
  • Drive strategic planning for renewable energy zone integration and major transmission development, ensuring alignment with national and state energy policies.
  • Influence and inspire internal teams and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation, agility, and continuous improvement.
  • Represent Transgrid at technical conferences, regulatory consultations, and industry forums, shaping the future of energy infrastructure.

What We’re Looking For

  • Tertiary qualifications in electrical engineering (or equivalent). Ideally with (or working towards) professional registration (CPEng, RPEQ).
  • Deep expertise in electricity transmission system planning, market analysis, or project development.
  • Strong leadership skills, capable of inspiring teams and collaborating across a highly matrixed organisation and industry through joint planning.
  • Strategic thinker with advanced problem-solving, negotiation, communication and stakeholder engagement capabilities.
  • Commitment to innovation, ethical practice, and a safe, inclusive workplace.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

At Transgrid, your work will have a tangible impact on NSW’s energy future. You’ll lead initiatives that connect renewable energy, shape the state’s electricity roadmap, and deliver major infrastructure that powers homes and businesses. You’ll thrive in a culture that values excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning, all while enjoying a dynamic and supportive work environment.
