ITS Engineers change how we travel. Especially in Intelligent Transport Systems, where the brightest ideas and most inspired engineering translate into safer, more sustainable roads. You'll see engineering systems through their entire lifecycle, from initial specification through delivery and on to maintenance. Whether you are supporting existing systems or developing new ones, your engineering will make communities stronger. You will support critical city-shaping initiatives that will change the way we move around Melbourne.
The ITS Engineer plays a pivotal role in the lifecycle management and delivery of engineering services to Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) projects within Transurban's Australian Operations. Reporting to the ITS Manager, this role is responsible for defining, supervising and undertaking all system engineering tasks necessary to support the delivery and ongoing lifecycle support of ITS on local Transurban assets.
Our world-leading Transport Technology teams invent roads for the future. They make toll collections easy and electronic. This team makes our roads talk. They build advanced control systems that monitor and manage traffic on the road - that can predict when an accident is more likely to happen. They make roads ready for driverless cars. And they plan smart traffic flow and signalling to get us where we're going faster. You will have opportunities on city shaping projects and to be at the forefront of changes to the way people travel. A career here makes a difference you can feel.
The impact you'll have
- You'll develop mission-critical engineering specifications, designs and solutions for tunnels, bridges and open roads.
- You'll make sure all our roads are ready for what's next, investigating performance, supportability and obsolescence as well as system enhancement.
- You'll be a technical expert, partnering with project leads and advising on everything from governance and policy to tender negotiations.
- You'll build relationships that matter, connecting with people in Transurban and out, in Australia and internationally.
- You'll analyse reports as well as write them, making recommendations that mitigate risks, drive growth, cut costs or improve delivery.
- You'll never stop improving, keeping up to date with emerging technology and our own knowledge base - think cyber security, cloud, and data analytics.
The talents you'll bring
- Degree-qualified, you'll have at least five years' experience and a hands-on understanding of ITS engineering or a similar discipline.
- Whatever your background - infrastructure, defence, telecommunications, mining, rail, the energy sector - you'll know how to deliver successfully and collaboratively in a complex, fast-paced environment.
- You'll be an influential presenter and credible communicator, writing reports that inform, engage and drive action.
- You'll balance engineering rigour with people focus, so you'll know all about asset management and maintenance but appreciate the importance of contributing to budgets and annual plans.
- Analytical and incisive, you'll spot issues and use your own ingenuity - and that of your team - to solve problems collaboratively.
- A passion for innovation and continuous improvement
The rewards you'll earn
- We'll make sure you have the tools you need to work smart and live better - including remote working.
- We'll develop you the way you want, with study assistance, training and career planning.
- We'll offer flexible leave, public transport ticket purchasing programs, insurance and salary continuance.
- We'll help you be healthy with flu vaccinations, fitness classes, fresh fruit and mental health support.
- We'll invite you to plenty of social activities, including ones that give back to our communities.
