Ventia operates Australia’s largest private firefighting service, delivering aviation, structural, and bushfire response capabilities across the country. With more than 25 years’ experience supporting the Australian Defence Force (ADF), we now have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Fire Capability manager to join our team to be located at Fleet Base West, WA. It is desirable that the applicant holds/held Firefighting qualifications or is/was previously a senior Emergency Response Manager in a relevant Australian organisation.

The Role  

Ventia are seeking a Fire Capability Manager to oversee and manage 3 sites in Western Australia. Services span firefighting, rescue and emergency response. The Fire Capability Manager will provide leadership to ensure successful deployment of personnel, equipment, planning and stakeholder engagement to ensure Defence capability. The Fire Capability Manager will have a strong focus on safety, compliance, people leadership to ensure optimal service delivery.

Duties Include:

  • Ensures station teams maintain a high standard of operational preparedness that ensures the immediate response to and successful management of all contracted emergency scenarios
  • Accountable for resource allocation, including personnel, fleet, equipment, and training, to meet contract and financial objectives
  • Successfully foster an inclusive working environment by leading employee engagement and driving service excellence
  • Build relationship with Defence Service Personnel, SEG Leadership and Base Community including Industry partners to raise the profile of Venita Fire and Rescue.
  • Lead Ventia’s ‘safety and health above all else’ promise by driving safety, environment & health outcomes by role modelling our LEAD behaviours (Learning, Engaging, Accountability, Discipline) and leading a culture of compliance
  • Contribute to redefining service excellence by developing a world-class emergency response service

About you: 

Note the below are desirable, but not mandatory, we are seeking a Fire Capability Manager that can bring a diverse background to a high performing contract.

  • Experience in emergency management in a dynamic, high-risk operating environment (highly desirable)
  • Graduate or Post Graduate qualification in Business Management
  • Background in complex service delivery across a geographically dispersed and/or multi-agency operations with a large workforce
  • Able to work autonomously and manage competing priorities based on risk
  • Excellent communication, influencing and relationship-building skills
  • Demonstrated experience with leading people programs including recruitment, training and leadership development, workforce planning, mentoring and change management. Experience with competency-based training is an advantage.
  • Experience in the application of Enterprise Agreements and partnering with unions
  • Customer Centric, noting our client is Defence
  • Commercially astute and strategic with experience in workforce planning, financial reporting, SHEQ, compliance and governance 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Applications 
  • The incumbent to this position must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Defence Security Clearance. As a result of this requirement the incumbent must be an Australian Citizen.
