Earn While You Learn and Build a Career with Ventia
Are you looking for more than just a job? Do you want a career where you'll develop specialist skills, work with a great team, and play a vital role in keeping New Zealand connected?
Ventia is seeking motivated and safety-focused individuals to join our team in Christchurch as Transmission Line Mechanic Trainees. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn while you learn, receive industry-leading training, and develop a long-term career in the electricity transmission industry.
If you're hands-on, enjoy working outdoors, and aren't afraid of heights, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
What Does a Transmission Line Mechanic Do?
Transmission Line Mechanics are responsible for constructing, maintaining, inspecting, and repairing the high-voltage transmission lines that carry electricity throughout New Zealand.
As a trainee, you'll work alongside experienced professionals who will teach you the technical skills needed to work on transmission towers and associated infrastructure. Over time, you'll gain the knowledge and experience to work safely at height, use specialist equipment, and contribute to essential projects that help power homes, businesses, and communities.
This is not your typical Monday-to-Friday office job. You'll be part of a team working in a variety of environments, from remote rural locations and farmland to hills, forests, and rugged terrain.
What to Expect
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys variety, adventure, and working outdoors. You can expect to:
- Travel to project sites throughout the region and across New Zealand when required
- Spend periods working away from home, with accommodation and allowances provided where applicable
- Work in remote and rural environments, often accessing transmission towers located off the beaten track
- Work outdoors in a range of weather conditions, including wind, rain, heat, and cold
- Climb towers and work at height while following industry-leading safety procedures
- Be part of a close-knit team where everyone looks out for each other
- Every day brings a new challenge, a new location, and an opportunity to learn from some of the best people in the industry.
What's In It For You?

- Learn from experienced industry professionals and qualified mentors
- Gain valuable technical skills and recognised industry qualifications
- Work for a reputable organisation with a strong safety culture
