The Role:
This is an Ongoing, full-time role located at the Army Base at Puckapunyal, in regional Victoria. The Range Safety Operator role will see you providing range management services to the Defence Force and is a crucial component in ensuring the safe operation of the live-fire ranges within the Training Area on a 24/7 basis. You will be part of a small team and dedicated to a rotating shift of 12 hours duration (four days on and four days off) including night shift, weekends and Public Holidays.
Duties and responsibilities:
This role has a high number of duties and responsibilities. You are encouraged to read the Job Description for a thorough list before you apply. The key duties and responsibilities are:
- Knowledge of PTA SO Requirements for Range Operations both Live & Dry. Includes Weapon Types and Traces to be used.
- Manage RDA Templates & Oz Explorer Inputting
- Conduct 1500h Range Users Conference
- Compile and Maintain Communications Logbook
- Daily Compilation and Updating of Map Boards x 7
- Produce and Issue RDA Maps
- Manage all Aspects of Range Access including Gate Operation, Flags, Map / Key / Comms issue, Range Entry Log, Brief/ Debrief In-coming or Off-going Users
- Brief & Debrief all Range Users
- Net Control Station for live firing activities, accidents, incidents & admin net as required.
- Communicate with Military Aircraft, Civilian Aircraft, CFA, VICFIRE, Police Air Wing via radio and / or phone
- Conduct 1500hr Range User Conference
- Undertake first response bush firefighting activities as required
What you will need to be successful:
- Be an Australian citizen eligible for Police & Defence clearance
- Computer skills including Word & Excel experience (highly desirable)
- Experience in radio communication
- Certificate in First Aid Level 2 (desirable)
- Mandatory training and licences:
- Manual Drivers Licence
- CFA Minimum Skills or Equivalent (desirable)
- Gain & Maintain DRN and Ventia Computer Access
- Excellent communication skills – be able to communicate with all ranks in Defence
- Able to work successfully as a team member and equally successful working independently
- Proactive – anticipate and flag areas of concern
- Have a problem solving and solutions-oriented mindset whilst thinking on your feet
