As the Finance Manager for Ventia’s Transport division, you will be supporting projects that deliver critical road infrastructure to the people of New Zealand. About the Role
You will be reporting to the Senior Finance Manager for Transport & Telco in New Zealand. As you are taking on the leadership responsibility of the Project Accounting Team, you are expected to manage your days but be visible on all the sites as required. This will be ranging from different parts of Auckland (such as Henderson, CBD, Pukekohe) including quarterly travel to Wellington and Thames. This role will:
- provide support to the project teams to ensure all financial or commercial issues and risks are identified and managed
- be responsible for the accurate & timely reporting of financial performance including profitability, cash flow, and R&O
- commit to mentoring and developing members of your team in alignment with the support that will be given to you by your manager and other members of senior management in the finance team
- be an inclusive leader who can maintain and further enhance the culture of collaboration and togetherness within our Transport team
By your physical presence and investing time, you will build rapport and develop relationships that allow you to hold people accountable and give direct and difficult feedback where necessary without diluting trust.
You must be capable of identifying varying levels of financial literacy and adjusting your communication style accordingly - not everyone will know what you know, and you need to be able to explain things that are comprehensible to your audience.
About You
To be successful in this role, you need to have a strong understanding of Project Accounting principles (qualified by either degree or experience.) Having a solid project accounting background, you will ideally have a roads or transport background. But essentially you will have operated in financial/ accounting role in the construction industry, with vast exposure to relevant accounting techniques, estimates, and project completion. Along with:
- A strong understanding of the key drivers in project financial performance
- Systems savvy – SAP and/ Power BI experience is an advantage
- Track record of developing financial acumen in team members and non-finance staff
- Strongly geared towards value creation and driven cash focus
- Ability to lead change in challenging circumstances
- Willingness to travel as required by the role
