Ventia are currently seeking an Experienced Environmental Program Planning Officer to join their team bases in Darwin, NT. The primary purpose of the role is to oversee delivery of environmental programs and prove expert advice and assistance on environmental matters relating to the Defence Base Services Contract.

The Environmental Officer is expected to contribute to the improvement of environmental programs and how they are delivered, managed and monitored to support continual improvement and enhanced customer appreciation.

• Providing technical oversight of environmental works as required under the Estate Maintenance and Operations Services (EMOS) contract with the Department of Defence
• Developing and updating management plans and reporting systems for environmental works delivery
• Working with subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of key environmental programs, including, but not limited to: bushfire management; weed management; feral animal and overabundant native species management; groundwater and surface water quality monitoring; and land condition monitoring
• Analyzing and reporting environmental performance to internal and external stakeholders and regulatory bodies
• Developing and maintaining positive working relationships with Defence, subcontractors and other stakeholders with respect to environmental programs and other environmental matters
• Participating in assurance and compliance activities and implementing improvement actions
• Advising and providing technical support to Facilities Maintenance and project managers on matters of environment and sustainability
• Responding to unplanned environmental issues through short-term works, variations to existing programs and incident response
• Providing assistance to grounds’ maintenance activities
• Assisting the Regional Manager Environmental Services with estimating, scoping, scheduling and reporting activities, ad hoc works and development of other documentation relating to delivery of environmental works
• Supporting planning, commercial and financial aspects of contract delivery

It is essential that the incumbent has the following:

• Tertiary qualifications in environmental science or equivalent experience
• Experience in the environmental or Defence portfolios
• Excellent communication skills
• Sound problem solving, organisational and time management skills
• Demonstrated written communication and IT skills
• Demonstrated ability to prepare environmental plans and reports
• Demonstrated ability to analyse and present data in meaningful formats
• An ability to work adaptively in a complex environment with multiple stakeholders
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is favourable
• Experience in land management (fire, weeds, feral animal management) is favourable
• Experience in project management is favourable
