You will be part of the solution as you lead the development and execution of Viva Energy’s gas marketing strategy, as it relates to its development and construction the Geelong Gas Terminal project, as well leading a newly developed downstream gas marketing operation, leveraging its own capacity position in the Gas Terminal. We are seeking a highly commercial and analytical professional to develop buy / sell portfolio in one of our high profile commercial business lines providing the infrastructure to transition to more sustainable forms of energy.
About the role:
Acting as Head of Gas Marketing & Origination you will build out and operationalise internal capabilities in this area by;
- Defining and execution of the commercial downstream gas marketing opportunities,
- Negotiate, execute, manage and administer new medium and long term gas sales agreements with gas buyers focused on maximizing value and minimizing credit and other risks, including preparation of commercial agreements
- Assist in negotiation and drafting of Final Investment Decision (FID) documentation in relation to Gas Terminal project
- Seek to grow related opportunities in customer offerings for lower carbon alternatives such as biomethane and hydrogen
- Own relationships with industry peers and expand Viva Energy’s knowledge base and reputation in the gas market, promoting high ethical standards with good business practice, commercial agility, integrity and commitment
- Develop relationships with Gas Terminal customer representatives to understand key drivers for application within execution of Gas Marketing and Origination strategy, and to influence delivery of value enhancing transactions
- Actively examine development of the gas network, research gas and power markets, participants and management / execution of opportunities to purchase and sell medium & long term gas contracts
- Develop price and sales, purchase and gas storage products and forecasts in the region
- Mitigate or minimise risk to the business through design and execution of proactive management strategies
- Establish clear standards for safety performance and behaviour consistent with Company’s environmental, and health & safety vision and policies and standards
- Represent the Gas Terminal team in both internal and external forums
- Effective and proactive management of internal and external stakeholder relations
- Development and delivery of cost reduction and value creation strategies
What you will bring;
- Gas contracting/negotiating experience (gas purchase, gas sale, transportation and processing arrangements is essential, as is a proven track record working in Joint Venture environments and managing key stakeholder relationships
- Extensive knowledge and deep understanding of both the Eastern Australian gas market, & downstream gas sector in Australia,
- Expert level understanding of market dynamics and capable of identifying new business opportunities to add value
- Relevant tertiary qualifications / technical post tertiary qualifications
- Ability to apply strategic thinking in areas of expertise to influence others and drive achievement of company’s strategy
Key deliverables attached to the role will be;
- Signing key contracts with Terminal customers prior to FID (by mid-2023)
- Achieving 60 – 80 PJs p.a. capacity rights commitments from customers
- Definition and Board approval of downstream gas strategy in advance of FID
- Achieving FID
