Flexible hybrid working and free myki travel in regional Victoria

Professional growth through exposure to government and infrastructure environments

Role variety through diverse stakeholder engagement and contract portfolios

V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we’re delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

About the role

We have two Contracts Manager vacancies that play a key role in supporting major asset and maintenance outcomes through the management of high‑value contracts and trusted stakeholder relationships. You’ll work closely with delivery teams and government partners to ensure contracts are well‑governed, compliant and enabling outcomes that matter.

Reporting to the Senior Contracts & Commercial Managers within Assets & Maintenance, these roles manage end‑to‑end contract activities across infrastructure and maintenance portfolios. Each role is responsible for a primary contract portfolio, working with internal teams, legal and procurement to ensure contracts are executed effectively and in line with commercial and policy requirements.

Key accountabilities include:

Manage the preparation, negotiation, execution and administration of contracts

Maintain contract documentation and ensure compliance with policies and obligations

Support procurement activities and provide contract management expertise

Manage contract variations, extensions, claims and performance matters

Identify contractual risks and contribute to practical mitigation strategies

Monitor supplier and contractor performance against contract requirements

Provide clear advice on contractual, commercial and risk matters

Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders

Prepare reports on contract performance, risks and financial impacts

About you

You bring solid contract management experience and enjoy working with people across different disciplines and priorities. You communicate clearly, are comfortable navigating government policy frameworks, and take a practical, collaborative approach to resolving issues and supporting delivery.

These roles suit professionals in the early to mid‑stages of their careers who have built a strong foundation and are keen to deepen their exposure across complex infrastructure environments.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

Minimum three years’ experience in contract management or a closely related role.

Demonstrated experience in contract negotiation, including drafting, variations, claims, dispute resolution and managing delivery timeframes.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving capability, with the ability to assess risk and identify practical solutions.

Proven ability to interpret contractual and financial information and translate it into clear, structured reports or insights for diverse stakeholders, including senior leaders.

Experience across procurement activities, claims management and risk assessment.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, with confidence engaging internal and external stakeholders.

Ability to balance commercial outcomes with compliance and policy requirements.

Practical, respectful and collaborative working style.

Commitment to integrity, transparency and ethical practice.

Desirable

Bachelor’s degree in Law, Business, Finance or a related field.

Exposure to Victorian Government procurement frameworks, including VGPB and/or MDPCP policies (highly regarded).

Professional accreditation such as WCC, NCMA or equivalent.

If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
