Trainer and Assessor - Operations

About the role
The Trainer and Assessor – Yard Coordinators, Shunters and Fuellers is responsible for delivering and maintaining competency across positions. This includes coordinating audits, assessments, and accredited and non accredited training in line with Learning and Capability requirements across the network.
Working closely with the Daily Operations Manager, your role ensures compliance while maintaining accurate competency records and assessments at other locations as required. Audits and assessments will be tailored to site specific operational requirements.
The role also supports the development of On the Job Trainers, coaches new employees, and assists with the rollout of new tasks or changes to current practices. Acting as a Subject Matter Expert, the Trainer and Assessor contributes to procedure and documentation updates.
Key accountabilities include:
- Facilitation of audits of all Yardmaster and Shunter procedures, tools and resources in consultation with the Daily Operations Managers.
- Support the Fleet Control Manager with Training and Assessment of Yard co-ordinators and Fuellers within the region. Ongoing Assessments and Training as required.
- Deliver competency-based training
- Ensuring consistency of application, and evaluating the effectiveness of Operations, procedures, and competency-based training and assessment activities.
- Consistent and equitable implementation of learning and development policies and procedures, and competency-based training and assessment activities.
- Provide training, coaching, and mentoring to shunters, Fuellers and yard co-ordinators to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to perform their role.
- Conduct in-field and theory-based assessments whilst ensuring they are conducted and recorded in accordance with V/Line and RTO requirements.
- Support new Training material as required
- Contribute to developing training and assessment resources, and coordinate and implement training as required.
Compliance:
Work closely and collaboratively with various departments, including Compliance, the investigations area, Learning & Development, Safety and Investigations teams throughout V/Line. Building strong relationships with these groups ensures that training remain current and aligned with both regulatory and organisational requirements.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of staff competencies.
- Ensuring that all staff members maintain the necessary skills and qualifications for their roles.
- Coordinate with the Daily Operations Manager to guarantee that all staff training is compliant with RTO.
Location & Travel Considerations
- Based Southern Cross
- Shifts Monday – Friday day shift with flexibility outside of business hours is required to support operational rosters.
- Travel Regional travel required as per business needs
About you
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Full Victorian Drivers licence
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
- Demonstrated working experience within Rail industry
- Ability to travel within regional Victoria for work requirements on occasion away from home.
