Infrastructure Quality Officer

Purpose-driven work supporting safety and quality outcomes across the rail network

Trusted role with accountability to support and shape better construction practices

Varied work across sites, projects and inspections with strong frontline connection

V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we’re delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

About the role

Reporting to the Infrastructure Quality Lead within Assets and Maintenance, this hands-on role with regular site travel combines technical insight, quality compliance, and assurance across Annual Works Plan programs. You’ll work closely with project managers, engineers, delivery partners and contractors to ensure works meet V/Line standards, project specifications and regulatory obligations, attending hold and witness points and maintaining accurate site records.

Key accountabilities include:

Monitor maintenance and renewal works to ensure quality, safety and compliance requirements are met.

Identify and address risks, variations and construction issues early through collaboration and inspection.

Suspend works or reject outputs where non-conformance, quality or risk thresholds are breached.

Conduct inspections on major periodic maintenance programs and priority activities.

Produce timely inspection reports and maintain detailed daily site records, including photographs.

Promote a positive quality culture through guidance, mentoring and constructive, respectful engagement.

Participate in internal and external audits and support corrective and preventive actions.

Work collaboratively with delivery agents, suppliers and subject matter experts.

The role includes weekday work, with additional flexibility required during occupations, including overnight stays and factory visits. Time worked outside standard hours is managed through time in lieu.

About you

You bring sound rail infrastructure experience and the confidence to apply standards consistently in live operational environments. You’re comfortable engaging with a broad range of stakeholders, value fairness and balanced decision making, and are motivated by contributing to safer outcomes for people, assets and communities.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

Rail industry experience with exposure to maintenance, renewals or construction works.

Understanding of rail standards, operating procedures and the Rail Safety Act (Vic).

Experience applying quality assurance, inspection or compliance processes.

Ability to identify construction gaps, assess risk and take considered action.

Stakeholder engagement skills across contractors, engineers and internal teams.

Rail Industry Workers Card (RIWC) and current Driver’s Licence.

Medical Category 3 clearance.

Track or rail infrastructure qualifications, trade or engineering background (desirable).

Professional judgement, clear communication and a collaborative, respectful and safety focused approach.

If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.
