About the role
As a Signaller, you will coordinate safe and efficient train movements within a designated control area using signalling systems and operating procedures.
You will play a critical role in maintaining safe railway operations while supporting high levels of service performance.
Key accountabilities include:
- Managing train movements via signal control systems and field equipment
- Ensuring safe, reliable service delivery for passengers and network users
- Adhering to all operational rules, procedures, and safety requirements
- Supporting a safe working environment for staff, customers, and visitors
- Undertaking customer service tasks where required (location dependent)
Signalling & Safe Working
- Operate signal control systems to manage train movements safely and efficiently
- Liaise with Train Control, neighbouring networks, and maintenance teams to ensure safe operations
- Apply safeworking protections and adhere to rules, procedures, and local instructions
- Manage fault reporting, safety compliance, and maintain a safe working environment
Security & Station Management
- Maintain security of the signal control centre and station facilities
- Open, close, and present stations in line with operational standards
- Provide accurate service information via PA systems and displays
- Coordinate coach services during disruptions and special events
Customer & Community
- Deliver customer-focused outcomes and resolve issues promptly
- Identify and implement improvements to the customer experience
- General Ticket sales / station presentation
Location & Travel Considerations
Based at Kilmore East, this part-time role offers 20+ hours per week, with weekday shifts typically between 12:00–16:30pm (Monday to Friday).
The role also requires flexibility to cover additional hours, including supporting leave coverage for full-time Signallers across Wallan and Seymour in extended shifts as required.
About you
You will play a key role in coordinating safe and efficient train movements, while supporting operational needs across the network.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
- Current, full Victorian driver’s licence
- Individuals are required to live within 1 hour / 80Kms radius of the office location
- Ability to work consistent four-hour weekday shifts commencing from midday
- Ability to meet the requirements of a part-time position (20 hours per week) with flexibility to support business needs with overtime as required.
- Flexible and able to undertake work-related travel across locations, including Wallan and Seymour
