Lead asset lifecycle planning for Victoria's regional rail network.

Shape long-term investment and funding decisions.

Hybrid working arrangements with Melbourne CBD location.

V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

Are you passionate about turning complex asset data into meaningful investment decisions? As Manager Asset Lifecycle, you'll play a key role in shaping how V/Line plans, prioritises and invests in critical rail infrastructure. Working at the intersection of asset management, data, strategy and planning, you'll help ensure our network remains safe, reliable and fit for the future while leading a team that supports long-term asset performance and decision-making.

About the role

The Manager Asset Lifecycle leads the development and ongoing improvement of V/Line's asset lifecycle modelling and investment planning capability. The role is responsible for using predictive modelling, asset data and financial forecasting to support short, medium and long-term planning decisions across the rail network.

Working within the Asset Management & Performance Division, you'll partner with stakeholders across engineering, operations, maintenance, projects and planning to develop evidence-based investment strategies and funding plans. You'll translate complex data and modelling outcomes into practical insights that support business priorities, funding decisions and asset performance outcomes.

This role combines strong technical asset management expertise with leadership, stakeholder engagement and strategic thinking, while also driving capability uplift in lifecycle modelling, predictive analytics and reporting across the organisation.

Key accountabilities include:

Lead the development and continuous improvement of asset lifecycle modelling and forecasting.

Develop asset lifecycle forecasts, asset degradation models and multi-year funding forecasts to support planning activities.

Provide advice and insights on asset performance, risk and funding priorities.

Drive scenario planning, analysis and reporting to support decision-making.

Ensure lifecycle models align with asset condition, performance and maintenance data.

Lead the development of Asset Management Plans and provide support in the updates of strategy-related documents..

Promote asset management practices aligned with ISO55001 principles.

Partner with stakeholders across the business to support planning and prioritisation.

Lead and develop a team of three while building capability in lifecycle modelling and asset planning.

Present complex technical information clearly to a range of stakeholders, including senior leaders.

Occasional travel may be required to V/Line sites across Victoria under appropriate escort and supervision arrangements.

About you

You are an experienced asset management professional who combines technical expertise with strategic thinking. You enjoy working with data, modelling tools and complex information, but you're equally comfortable engaging with stakeholders and influencing decisions across different parts of the business.

You understand how asset performance, risk, maintenance and investment planning connect and can use that knowledge to develop practical, long-term solutions. You're a capable people leader who enjoys developing others, driving continuous improvement and helping teams achieve outcomes.

Most importantly, you're able to simplify complex information and communicate it in a way that helps stakeholders make informed decisions.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

Demonstrated experience in asset lifecycle modelling, planning and forecasting.

Strong understanding of asset management principles and ISO55001 frameworks.

Experience using asset data, modelling and analytical tools to support decision-making.

Railway infrastructure or similar industries (mining, utilities, or roads) asset knowledge and experience.

Ability to interpret complex information and provide clear recommendations.

Strong strategic thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement and consultation skills.

Demonstrated leadership experience, including leading teams and developing capability.

Tertiary qualification in an engineering or science discipline.

Ability to influence, collaborate and drive outcomes across a complex organisation.

Demonstrated alignment with V/Line's values and a collaborative approach to building positive working relationships.
