Under the guidance of the Director - Workplace Relations and the Manager - Workplace Relations, the Senior Workplace Relations Specialist is responsible for providing accurate, effective, and timely workplace relations and human resources advice to managers and employees across the organisation.

About the opportunity
V/Line’s Workplace Relations Team is seeking a skilled, progressive Senior Workplace Relations Specialist to join the team for a full-time, fixed-term tenure during a time of significant rail industry reform.
V/Line is enterprise bargaining in 2023. This role presents the opportunity to be at the negotiation table to engage with the Rail, Tram, and Bus Union (RTBU), and others, in relation to an exciting industrial reform agenda.

About the role
- Responsible for resolving employee issues, including conducting workplace investigations, and handling grievances, claims, & disciplinary action.
- Provide advice on all aspects of workplace relations policies and procedures, counselling, disciplinary processes, employment contracts, and enterprise bargaining agreements to managers across the organisation and the People Services team.
- Maintain accurate records, including reviewing, and developing Employee Relations policies and procedures, as well as preparing carefully drafted documentation.
- Provide interpretations of legislation, case law, employment contracts, enterprise agreements, and awards.
- Prepare of reports and correspondence to management related to people management and workplace relations.
- Provide interpretations of awards, contracts, and other instruments relating to industrial affairs.
- Participate in enterprise bargaining, employee consultations, and other industrial activities.
- Assist the broader People team with projects or initiatives, as needed.
- Resolve disputes, including advocacy and handling matters before the Fair Work Commission.
- Ensure constructive communications are maintained with relevant unions and stakeholders.
About you
- A minimum of 3-5 years' experience in a law firm or industrial relations consultancy, or 5-10 years' experience conducting investigations and managing employee relations issues within an internal role is required.
- Experience and qualifications in employee/industrial relations or employment law are highly desirable.
- Established track record of investigating employee misconduct and performance issues.
- Prior experience preparing and reviewing legal documents, including documents for the Fair Work Commission.
- Excellent organisational skills, strategic planning, and careful thought, to multitask and meet tight deadlines.
- Good resilience and advanced communication skills will help you establish strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
