About the role
As the Head of Aboriginal Cultural Strategy & Capability, your leadership will create meaningful change from within. The strategies, projects, frameworks and initiatives you manage will lead to:

This position provides high level subject matter expertise, Aboriginal cultural proficiency, connections, and a commitment to support V/Line's journey of cultural development and lifelong learning.
Key accountabilities of the role include-
- Manage, lead, develop and deliver strong working relationships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander individuals, communities, and stakeholders across Victoria through advanced liaison, communication, and coordination skills.
- Provide expert advice and information to stakeholders to raise awareness, information program development, highlight emerging issues and present recommendations to support delivery.
- Take actions to implement, follow up progress, report on, and continuously refine V/Line’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Action plan.
- Gather insights on social and economic priorities for Aboriginal communities for policy and program development.
- Manage, lead, develop and deliver strategies and tools to improve Aboriginal Cultural safety programs that enhance respect for Aboriginal people and cultural knowledge to enrich relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and the wider community.
- Provide leadership through education, awareness and mentoring of V/Line staff about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture, and challenges.
- Partner with stakeholders to enhance relationships through communication, negotiation, and issues management.
- Lead, develop and support a comprehensive communications strategy.
- Identify and provide support to manage project risks through genuine community engagement.

About you
Our ideal candidate has experience leading similar initiatives and takes a collaborative approach to stakeholder engagement. Your experience working and connecting with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities combined with your natural instincts for education will be essential to leading change at V/Line.
- Qualifications in Communications or a related field, or substantial experience in a Community based role is essential.
- Excellent knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander history, culture and communities in Victoria.
- Demonstrated experience and understanding in working with Indigenous communities or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training in this specialised area.
- Ability to negotiate and influence effectively to build positive relationships and communicate effectively with a wide range of stakeholders.
- Excellent knowledge and understanding of the principles of cultural safety as it relates to building respectful dialogues, understanding and recognition, with a focus on development.
- Strong communication skills, including written, verbal, reporting, presenting, and facilitation.
