About the role
- The Train Controller is responsible for recording and facilitating the implementation, coordination, and forward planning of all movements of trains, light locomotives, track inspection and maintenance vehicles in a train control specific area.
- The Train Controller is accountable for monitoring train movement using screen-based equipment and train graphs.You will liaise with external Train Controllers (from Metro, etc) and external Train Drivers in order to direct and instruct movement across the network, implementing and communicating the daily train plan while responding to changing operational requirements; implementing alternative plans where disruptions occur, advising train operators and relevant stakeholders of alterations to service. As the Train Controller, you are also responsible for reporting and managing emergency management processes.
About you

- To be successful in securing this role, you must be available to work across a 24/7 rotating roster, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be fit to work with screen-based equipment, demonstrate sound analytical/problem solving skills and be able to work in a time sensitive environment and make quick and accurate decisions.Current Track Awareness Level 1 and Train Control Safe Working qualifications are desirable.
- The ideal candidate will ideally have a background in Train Control, Transport or Airline/Airport Operations and have a sound knowledge of Safety/Incident Reporting Systems with proven competency in the MS Office Suite. Candidates with experience in operations and coordination of transport services outside of rail and aviation are also encouraged to apply.
- The successful candidate will be able to commit to an October class date and face-to-face training, which generally takes 3 months to complete.

The successful applicant will be paid in accordance with the current V/Line Rail Operations and Administrative Employee Agreement 2019, Trainee Train Controller, $46.4773 per hour (while training). The selection process may include aptitude assessments, a behavioural event interview, probity (police) check and medical check.
