About the role
The Rail Service Planning Scheduler is accountable for building the operational V/Line passenger rail timetable, fleet workings associated with the V/Line passenger rail timetable and the operational stabling plan for the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Reporting to the Master Service Plan Officer, you’ll form part of the Master & Strategic Service Planning branch and support V/Line coach timetables and Master freight scheduling on the V/Line network to support V/Line’s Commonwealth Games planning activities.
Key accountabilities include:
Research, planning and development of the Victoria 2026 Commonwealth Games timetable for V/Line passenger services, incorporating marketing feedback and operational and regulatory requirements.
Coordinating the build of an operationally sound, passenger focused rail timetable by combining RailSys modelling outputs, DTP scope and V/Line performance and business requirements.
Developing the operational stabling plan factoring in the timetable, fleet movements and fuelling.
Developing the fleet plan factoring in Fleet Maintenance Rosters.
Assisting in the development of the V/Line master coach timetable.
About you
The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative team and ideally have prior experience in rail scheduling or transport and logistics planning.
Key skills we’re looking for:
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills is essential
At least 1-2 years of rail operational planning experience
Experience using rail operational modelling software (e.g. RailSys) and/or rail/coach master planning software (e.g.TMS TrainPlan) is preferable
Exposure to quantitative analysis and visualisation is well regarded
Demonstrate alignment to V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Planning or Engineering is highly regarded but not essential

This position will be paid between Clerk C2 $84,681 – Clerk C4 $94,200 + leave loading + 11% superannuation.
The selection process may include a behavioural event interview, probity (police) check, and reference check.
