About the role
The Freight Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the performance of the rail freight network. This role involves oversight of third party freight operators, incident management, disruption mitigation and stakeholder collaboration to ensure efficient and reliable freight services. The Manager who will also develop and implement process to improve network capacity, performance, safety.
Key accountabilities include:
Strategic Leadership: Drive initiatives to optimise freight operations and network performance.
Stakeholder Management: Provide clear direction and robust advice to internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and rail operators.
Operational Excellence: Oversee the development and implementation of processes to enhance capacity, performance, and safety.
Project Delivery: Lead the execution of freight strategies through effective project management.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to industry standards and network operating rules.
Innovation and Improvement: Identify and implement improvements in operations planning and service delivery.
Safety and Risk Management: Maintain a safe workplace and manage risks effectively.
About you
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Freight Operations Manager who is passionate about optimising rail freight operations. The ideal candidate will possess commercial acumen, strong rail or relevant industry knowledge, and exceptional writing skills. They will be adept at planning, stakeholder management, and driving operational excellence.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
Commercial Acumen: Demonstrated ability to understand and apply commercial principles to drive profitability and efficiency.
Strategic Leadership: Proven experience in leading initiatives that enhance network performance and capacity.
Stakeholder Management: Strong ability to build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies and industry partners.
Operational Expertise: Extensive experience in rail freight operations and planning, with a deep understanding of the Victorian rail network.
Industry Knowledge: First hand experience in the grain, pulp and paper, quarry horticulture or logistics industries.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly an effectively.
Problem-Solving: Clear aptitude for problem-solving, data analysis, and program planning.
Innovation and Improvement: Ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to improve operational efficiency and safety.
Regulatory Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
Team Management: Proven experience in managing teams and balancing competing priorities.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and train path planning software.
