V/Line’s purpose is to connect Victorians through safe, reliable, and accessible transport. We believe in giving all Victorians opportunities through travel and transport – connecting them to jobs, education, family and friends, services, tourism and trade.

V/Line is experiencing significant growth and we’re delivering more services, more trains, cheaper fares, and huge projects. With more than 3700 weekly train and coach services, an expansive freight network and unprecedented rail investment, millions of Victorians depend on us to deliver. You could be one of our 3100 committed team members who are up to the challenge.

About the role

As a Signaller at V/Line, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Operations Group. You will play a vital role in safely and efficiently coordinating train movements within the designated control area, ensuring the delivery of quality service to V/Line’s passengers and third-party rail access seekers. Your role will involve operating the Seymour Signal Panel, as well as other signal panels at Wallan and Kilmore East, adopting a multi-skilled work ethic.

Key accountabilities include:

  • Operating the signal control panel to manage all signals and points within the control area.

  • Liaising with Train Control and neighbouring networks for the safe operation of rail traffic and works.

  • Adhering to V/Line's rules, operating procedures, and safety standards.

  • Managing customer service tasks, including ticket sales and handling customer inquiries as required.

  • Maintaining a safe work environment for staff, customers, and the public.

About you

We are looking for someone who is safety-focused, detail-oriented, and able to work effectively under pressure. You’ll thrive in a dynamic environment, be proactive in managing customer needs, and possess excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in railway signalling or related fields.

  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and safe working practices.

  • Ability to work well in a team and collaborate with others.

  • Prior experience and qualifications in Automatic Block Signalling and Train Order systems is ideal but not mandatory (training will be provided if not qualified).

  • A current and valid Driver’s licence is mandatory.

  • If your skills or experience don’t exactly match our listed requirements, we still encourage you to apply. We value diverse perspectives and believe in the potential for growth and development.

  • Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.

You must be able to work on a rotating roster including weekends and overnight shifts.
