About the role
As the Signalling Interface Manager - Projects, you are integral to the success of V/Line’s Assets and Maintenance Group.
The Assets & Maintenance (A&M) Group cares for today’s assets and infrastructure, and plans for future network renewals and growth.
The Group includes teams that have management and oversight of rolling stock and network infrastructure, provide network access for freight operators and third-party works, facilitate project integration and delivery across the network and includes engineering assurance. The teams enable the safe and efficient operation of the network.
The Signalling Interface Manager - Projects acts as the crucial link between Signalling Maintenance teams and Major Periodic Maintenance (MPM) Works and State projects.
Key accountabilities include:
Project Interface & Technical Governance
- Review and endorse project scope of works, design specifications, risk assessments, and safety-in-design documentation.
- Provide technical advice and support the Section Supervisors and Project Managers throughout the project lifecycle, including during handovers, commissioning, and defect rectification.
- Act as the key interface with MPM works and State projects to ensure maintenance requirements, scope, and budgets are understood and accepted by all stakeholders.
- Provide input into dilapidation surveys for Works Readiness assessments.
- Represent Signalling Maintenance in key projects, occupation, and contractor meetings to ensure maintenance requirements are clearly communicated, understood, and adhered to.
Safety, Quality & Compliance
- Ensure all works comply with V/Line’s safety standards, signalling regulations, and quality management processes.
- Review and endorse testing and commission plans to ensure all requirements are met for returning asserts to safe operation.
- Conduct field audits during occupations to verify compliance with standards, requirements, and safe working procedures.
- Initiate actions to prevent the occurrence of non-conformances related to Rail Safety, OH&S, and quality standards, and recommend solutions where issues are identified
About you
As the Signalling Interface Manager - Projects you will report to the Maintenance Engineering Manager.
You will ensure that project works are designed, commissioned, and delivered to meet the long-term needs of signalling maintenance. The position holder will support Section Supervisors to ensure that all works entering operational service do so safely and in accordance with signalling regulations, project requirements, and V/Line standards.
You must be willing to travel on-site outside of standard business hours, including weekends, to support project works and attend critical meetings. Statewide travel is expected as required.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Qualified Signal Maintenance Technician
- Extensive demonstrated experience in railway signalling systems design and maintenance
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Diploma of Railway Signalling or equivalent qualification / experience
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
- Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE) qualification
- Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering is highly desirable.
- At least 5 years in a supervisor role
- Demonstrated experience in leadership roles in railway settings leading signalling maintenance staff
SKILLS AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
- Proven ability to engage, influence, and communicate effectively with project managers, technical staff, and contractors.
- Demonstrated ability to identify risks, prevent non-conformances, and provide practical solutions to technical and safety-related issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings and convey complex technical information clearly.
- A strong commitment to upholding and promoting a culture of safety and compliance in a high-risk operational environment.
- Display the qualities to work autonomously and lead by example.
