About the role
As the Senior Rail Infrastructure Specialist - Signalling, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe and reliable operation of V/Line’s signalling infrastructure. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Engineering Manager, and acting as a subject matter expert, you will provide technical leadership and guidance to frontline teams, ensuring maintenance standards are upheld and continuous improvement initiatives are implemented.
Key responsibilities include
- Provide technical leadership for complex fault diagnosis, troubleshooting, and repair of in-service signalling equipment.
- Lead investigations into asset failures, analyse performance data, and develop proactive improvement plans to enhance network reliability.
- Mentor and coach signalling supervisors and technicians, building technical capability and fostering a culture of excellence.
- Contribute to planning by developing accurate technical scopes, budget estimates, and project requirements for annual and multi-year works programs.
- Review and maintain documentation including procedures, work instructions, and maintenance manuals to ensure compliance with engineering standards.
- Manage incident and investigation reports to ensure safety and operational integrity.
- Oversee commissioning and acceptance testing of new or renewed signalling assets, ensuring seamless integration into active service.
- Monitor inspection outcomes and act on emerging issues to maintain asset performance and safety.
About you
Our ideal candidate will have:
Essential qualifications and technical expertise
Diploma of Railway Signalling or Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Systems).
Extensive experience in railway signalling design, installation, and maintenance, ideally in a senior operational role.
Expert knowledge of signalling systems (e.g., relay logic, track circuits, point machines, level crossings, computer-based interlocking, and train control systems)) and advanced fault diagnosis skills.
- Strong knowledge of Victorian railway operations, signalling standards, and maintenance practices.
- Current Level 3 Track Force Protection Coordinator certification (or willingness to obtain).
