About the role
The Projects Group is responsible for developing, delivering and assuring project-related changes and improvements across the regional rail network.
The Group coordinates, integrates and delivers major projects and network change in a safe, collaborative and innovative manner, enabling V/Line to shape the improvement and modernisation of V/Line’s regional transport service.
The primary objective of the Project Engineer (Infrastructure) is to conduct and participate in the performance of Rail, Track, Civil or Structures engineering and project activities, as directed at an appropriately authorised and qualified level. Responsibilities may include: project engineering and project management, technology development, design solution development and engineering investigation and analysis.
As well as performing duties specified in this position description an employee may be required to undertake other duties or functions consistent with their classification, capabilities, and skills.
Position Accountabilities:
- Derive project scope and requirements to ultimately deliver project activities.
- Contract and contractor management, where required by the Manager.
- Develop specifications and work instructions.
- Define the engineering requirements, design and implement appropriate engineering solutions accordingly.
- Define interfaces between disciplines, as necessary, and systems.
- Integrate systems, components and design solutions.
- Provide technical and engineering expertise for the investigation and analysis of identified engineering system issues.
- Participate in the development and maintenance of rail infrastructure maintenance and construction standards, technical maintenance plans, service schedules, inspection and test plans.
- Participate in type approval submissions of rail related equipment / systems.
- Review design submissions and identified anomalies in accordance with design principles and relative standards.
- Review of applications looking to undertake works and obtain access to the network.
- Review locations where works are proposed and provide advice and support on matters required for completion.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal procedures to ensure reviews of third-party applications are handled expeditiously, to ensure V/Line’s safety and environmental, operational requirements are being adhered to by 3rd Party Project applicants.

About you
The Project Engineer - Infrastructure is also to assist in ensuring that where works are to be undertaken on the V/Line network they are conducted safely and in accordance with design drawings and standards for the works that have been previously approved.
Selection Criteria:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Registered Professional Engineer Victoria (RPEV) in civil engineering
- A minimum of 3+ years proven experience in the delivery of projects
- Civil Engineering qualification
- A current driver’s licence or the ability to travel independently to site, as required
- Experience in Rail, Track, Civil or Structures advantageous but not essential
- Level 1 Track Safety Awareness training, or willingness to obtain.
- Sound knowledge of V/Line and Victorian Railway operations
- Suitable level of accreditation in Aust Institute of Project Management (AIPM)
- Good understanding of the rolling stock build and maintenance regime, along with the type testing procedures and requirements
