Trainee Signal Maintenance Technician- Ballarat
Permanent, Full Time Position
$57.4179 p/h plus super plus overtime & shift penalties

About the role
As a Trainee Signal Maintenance Technician, you will help keep Victoria’s transport network safe and reliable. You will work under supervision to perform maintenance and installation tasks with precision and care.
As a trainee you will work Monday to Friday on a day shift. Once you are a qualified tech the roster pattern is a 7/7 rotating blocks. This includes earlies, lates and a night shift block.
During your traineeship you will be required to attend our training department in Wendouree for a full week every 4 weeks.
When you are not at the training department you will be based at a depot working alongside qualified techs. They will take you out to complete routine maintenance, major faults but also act as a mentor to you for any assistance you need.
The traineeship takes roughly 18 months to complete. During this time you will be on a trainee rate of $57.4179 per hour.
Key responsibilities:
  • Assist with maintaining and installing signalling equipment
  • Complete scheduled maintenance tasks from the technical plan
  • Complete reports into our maintenance system
  • Attend and rectify equipment faults at multiple locations
  • Use service schedules to guide maintenance activities
About you
You're a qualified electrician with a solid foundation in industrial systems, and you're ready to take your skills trackside. Whether you've worked in manufacturing, heavy industry, or infrastructure, you understand the importance of precision, safety, and keeping operations running smoothly.
To be considered for this role, applicants must meet the following key selection criteria within their application, as this forms part of our merit-based recruitment process:
  • A Certificate III – Electrotechnology.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Meet V/Line’s Rail Industry Worker safety benchmarks.
  • Current full Driver's Licence.
  • Demonstrated alignment with V/Line’s values of responsiveness, integrity, impartiality, accountability, respect, leadership and human rights.
