Work in a high performing environmentally conscious team
Permanent full-time based in Leederville

Safe for all
As residents of this beautiful state, we all have the right to safe drinking water. A secure drinking water catchment is the first part of the multiple barrier approach to providing safe drinking water and protecting the public health of our community. It is crucial to prevent, minimise or manage the risks of contamination in our catchments as this provides greater surety than removal of contaminants by other barriers such as treatment. The size and diverse climate of WA means that the Water Corporation is responsible for the management of around 120 surface and groundwater drinking water sources from the tops of the Kimberley Region to the southern end of Albany, and far and wide in between.
As a Technical Advisor – Source Protection, you will play a vital role in ensuring safe, good quality drinking water. Your key function will be to provide direction and guidance for water quality operations teams and support a range of processes and projects to improve the management of drinking water catchments across our state. You will provide advice on catchment related water quality matters to your stakeholders and wider business. You will support our stakeholders by developing catchment management strategies, analysing data, providing advice on land use proposals, producing reports on catchment performance, incident support, and developing and implementing new source protection processes aligned with the latest version of the Australian Drinking Water Guidelines.
You will work closely with our regional operational teams, catchment rangers, and water quality partners. Your external stakeholders will mainly include State Government departments such as the Department of Water and Environmental Regulation (DWER), WA Department of Health, Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety (DMIRS).
This role will require occasional travel to regional catchments throughout WA in order to conduct risk assessments and meet with regional stakeholders to progress source protection initiatives.
Confidence in Communication
Now that you are fully fledged in the technical aspects of this role, let’s get down to communication. You will be in charge of reporting, presenting, and distributing facts and information to a wide range of audiences, from our regional frontline staff to senior managers and external stakeholders. You will have the ability to communicate well across all hierarchies, including verbal and written. Occasionally you will be required and have the confidence to conduct presentations. You are the voice and subject matter expert of drinking water catchment protection and safety.
Excited about the job but want to know more about your next team?
You will be working alongside a high-performing team who care about and advocate for our catchments and the environment. Work in a team that finds this work to be meaningful and makes a difference to the protection of public health and improved community outcomes. You will work in a supportive and diverse team, who are on a united journey to make positive improvements to the way we manage drinking water quality in WA.
There will be continual learning, expansion, and growth as the business focusses on climate change impacts and improvements/innovation in technology in catchment management.
Take the words from your next work mate:
“If you are looking for a new opportunity where you can develop your skills and knowledge in water quality and environmental science, then I would strongly encourage you to apply. Working in an operational support team means that no two days are the same and you will always be participating in work that is challenging (in a good way), meaningful and interesting. I genuinely enjoy my role in the Source Protection Team. I am surrounded by a very capable and intelligent group of colleagues who are brilliant mentors that I am constantly learning from. They are a wonderful support network who are always willing to share their knowledge. My manager gives me the autonomy to use my own initiative but is also available to offer support and guidance. I am very grateful to be working in a team that is so passionate and engaged with their work.”
Your qualifications and experience:
You will possess degree level qualifications in science, environmental science, natural resource management, or data analytics.
You will have sound experience in catchment management, water quality management, natural resource management, or environmental science.
You will have experience in using spatial software (e.g., ArcGIS)
As this role will require travel to our sites and regions, you will require a valid WA Driver’s license.
