    About the role

    Water Corporation is seeking a highly experienced Principal – Infrastructure Architect with a proven background in traditional enterprise infrastructure and a strong track record of leading organisations through cloud‑first transformation.

    This senior role is responsible for developing and implementing infrastructure roadmaps that modernise legacy environments and enable cloud adoption, ensuring platforms and services are secure, resilient, scalable and aligned with business and technology strategy.

    What the role will involve:

    In this role, you will guide enterprise infrastructure architecture strategy and ensure technology investments and platform evolution support business priorities and long-term sustainability.

    Key responsibilities include:

    • Develop infrastructure architecture roadmaps that align with business strategy and long-term modernisation goals across on premise and cloud environments. These will include End User and Mobility Services, Network Services, Storage Services, Platform Services and System Management.
    • Providing strategic input into future hybrid infrastructure planning, focusing on transitioning to Cloud Services, Infrastructure as Code and Governance as Code.
    • Translate enterprise infrastructure strategy into actionable investment plans spanning short-, medium- and long-term horizons.
    • Collaborate closely with platform teams, platform owners, and service providers to ensure solutions are architecturally sound, implementable, and aligned to enterprise standards.
    • Evaluate business and non-functional requirements to design fit for purpose infrastructure solutions that meet security, availability, performance, and scalability expectations.
    • Define, maintain, and continuously evolve infrastructure architecture principles, standards, patterns, and reference architectures across hybrid environments.
    • Develop and govern transition and uplift plans that modernise legacy platforms and enable cloud and hybrid capabilities with minimal business disruption.
    • Maintain architectural templates and provide guidance on architectural processes and artefacts and ensure the accuracy and relevance of the enterprise architecture repository.
    • Contribute to enterprise architecture governance processes, including architecture forums, design reviews, and architectural decisions.
    • Monitor and assess emerging infrastructure, cloud, and platform technologies, translating industry trends into practical recommendations and advice on future capabilities.

    Mandatory skills and experience:

    You will bring strong enterprise infrastructure architecture experience combined with the ability to influence strategic technology outcomes across a large organisation.

    You will demonstrate:

    • Degree qualification in Information Technology or related discipline
    • Extensive experience in infrastructure architecture and strategic planning
    • Experience defining and implementing infrastructure strategy in complex enterprise environments
    • Strong experience across infrastructure lifecycle management including installation, operation and optimisation
    • Experience working within Agile or scaled Agile delivery environments
    • Strong understanding of enterprise architecture and governance frameworks such as TOGAF
    • Appropriate certifications including AWS Architecture certifications
    • Ability to understand technical and organisational dependencies across enterprise environments
    • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving capability
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills

    In addition, the following will be desirable:

    • Experience with Operational Technology
    • Experience with Firewalls
    • Experience with the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)
    • Experience with ArchiMate
