We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Principal Data Scientist at our Perth Head Office, on a permanent full-time basis.
About this role
As the Principal Data Scientist, you will be required to:
- Accountable for leading and developing the thinking regarding how Western Power will need to evolve its business intelligence, advanced analytics and data governance practices and strategy to remain competitive and relevant during and after the industry’s energy transformation
- Accountable for providing thought leadership in supporting and influencing the identification of trends, insights, market opportunities and industry innovation within the energy sector, the key impacts on Western Power’s medium to long term Business Plan
- Accountable for the stewardship of Western Power’s Data Strategy, this includes ensuring alignment with BI&T’s digital strategic objectives, working closely with the Principal Digital Strategist
- Lead the business unit’s and Western Power’s Centre of Excellence for Advanced Analytics, Data Science and Business Intelligence
- Accountable for the leading analysis that is holistic and supports the Corporate and BI&T domain strategies and broader decision making to drive increased value from data
- Provide thought leadership on advanced analytics services within BI&T and across Western Power, including business intelligence and statistical / advanced analytics practices and strategy
- Provide in-depth thought leadership expertise and guidance on how Western Power should evolve its advanced analytics practices to support data-driven decision making.
- Lead research on the implications of changing ‘market’ (includes technology, customer demand, government policy or regulatory etc changes) conditions to inform organisational decision making
- Support Western Power’s data analysis processes in conjunction with related internal planning processes.
- Develop and present strategic recommendations related to business intelligence and or advanced analytics to Western Power Senior Leadership and business unit teams.
- Lead the necessary activities to champion change and a culture shift within Western Power to understand how value is perceived and realised from data
- Provide the conduit for the Principal Digital Strategist into the Data Operations and Analytics area, which includes driving the alignment with BI&T’ strategic objectives and the realisation of value from data
- Have significant contribution to the development and growth of our Business Intelligence and Technology practice
About you
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Systems Analysis, Engineering or a related study, or equivalent significant, broad, and deep industry experience (essential)
- Comprehensive and broad understanding of regulations and technology and the requirements this places on the justification and development of projects.
- Recognised as a thought leader in advanced analytics relevant to the industry
- Strategic perspective, strong analytical and business acumen capability, ability to think conceptually and ability to apply business context to emerging technology and innovation issues
- Significant experience in developing insight from data including excellent critical thinking and conceptual skills
- Proven track record delivering strategic outcomes in a distributed and/or matrix management model.
- Proven track record of delivering robust plans and project justifications including e.g. feasibility studies etc.
- Extensive knowledge, expertise and demonstrated skills in complex statistical analysis and modelling
- Excellent written and verbal communication and influencing skills - in particular, the ability to prepare and present compelling justifications for emerging technological and or innovate strategies and programs for consumption by a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated personal interest in innovation and creativity.
- Strong negotiation skills for internal and external audiences
- Post graduate qualifications in business or related discipline (desirable)
- Valid WA Driver’s License Class ‘C’ or ‘C-A’ (desirable)
