This is a unique and exciting time to be a part of the Tech & Data Services team at Western Power. We are at the forefront of the energy transition in leveraging existing and new technologies, including microgrid, stand-alone power systems (SPS), battery storage solutions and incorporating increased levels of renewable energy such as roof top solar into the energy system. We're transforming the electricity network ensuring a cleaner, brighter and more resilient energy supply for the next generation.
We're also working hard on enabling the decarbonisation of the energy system by converting more of our energy consumption to electricity, including electric vehicles (EVs) as well as other initiatives to enable industry sectors to reduce emissions by making the switch.
The transition to the energy system of the future is reliant on innovation in the Tech & Data Services space. Longer term, we’ll be focusing on the establishment of foundational services, provided in an efficient, reliable and highly accessible manner. We will apply a lifecycle management approach to these services so we are accountable for the strategy, implementation and ongoing operation of our products.
We support Western Power’s objectives through fit-for-purpose data so the business can extract maximum value from our assets in any work location. We need your support to ensure appropriate techniques and tools are used to deliver solutions to the business that they can use to generate insights that yield better & faster decisions, using data they can trust and understand.

About the Role:
This position is responsible for Leading the design, development, and implementation of ESB / API solutions leveraging MuleSoft platform.
This position possesses the experience and the expertise to ensure work is delivered in line with Western Power’s delivery framework and ICT standards. This will be achieved by leading development teams, utilising the subject matter expertise, full comprehension of the agile delivery framework and extensive knowledge of application and infrastructure components used in Western Power.
As a Tech Lead at Western Power, you will:
- Champion and evangelise development best practices like TDD, automation, continuous integration, continuous deployment, DevOps and agile delivery framework, aligning these to Western Power’s ICT strategy.
- Mentor application developers and information specialists to build and test application code in accordance with Western Power’s methodologies, architectural standards and industry best practices
- Monitor and optimise Mulesoft performance, and proactively address issues to ensure high availability and reliability
- Lead, manage and deliver solutions for business driven initiatives by working with internal staff and (or) external service providers
- Provide technical expertise and guidance on Mulesoft best practices
- Spearhead continuous improvement and review of Western Power’s processes, standards and tools to achieve well – engineered results and contribute to a positive environment that encourages individual development and continuous improvement
- Monitor and report on the progress of projects against business requirements and quality of deliverables, drive remedial actions and escalate issues where necessary
- Build strong relationships with stakeholders across Western Power and external ICT service providers to manage application development within the parameters of the business need and availability of budget and skills.
About you:
The successful applicant will be experienced and competent in the following:
- A minimum of ten (10) or more years in ICT with eight (8) or more years of direct experience in application development and minimum of three (3) years as a technical lead
- Experience of working with MuleSoft components, workflow, and patterns, and how to configure them
- Experience in performing multiple roles in Agile SCRUM projects
- Extensive experience of managing and working with external ICT service providers in the design and delivery of complex ICT solutions
- Strong knowledge of ICT development and project delivery methodologies
- Practical experience in leading small project teams to deliver outcomes
- Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills in areas such as teamwork, facilitation and negotiation
- Technical Leads must be proficient with the following knowledge, skills and experience:
- B2B, and SOA framework
- Web Service standards and requirements
- Security standards, such as WS Security, Digital Certificates, SSL etc.
- Deployment architecture
- Secure Software Development Lifecycle
