We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Investigations Specialist at our Jandakot office, on a 12-month max term basis.
About this role
This position is responsible for supporting Western Power’s Electrical Inspectors (Inspectorate) which details Western Power’s processes to identify non-compliance, investigate, gather sufficient evidence, and report on findings in alignment with regulatory obligations that inform legal proceedings and potential prosecutions. This is achieved by supporting the business to manage its investigation processes and approach to responding to notifiable work, and incidents of electrical origin such as electric shocks and fires.
The position also assists in the professional relationship with our regulator Building & Energy providing briefs of evidence to the standard required by Criminal and Civil Courts.
Key accountabilities include:
- Uphold and support the application of Western Power’s ‘Inspection System Plan’ (ISP), which details Western Power’s processes to attend, identify, investigate, and report regulatory breaches and noncompliance in alignment with the Code of Ethics, and Code of Practice Inspectors (Electricity) in Western Australia under Regulations 253 and 254 of the Electricity Regulations 1947
- Oversee and support complex investigation and auditing activities, electric shock investigations, fire investigations, regulatory breaches, and providing emergency response advice in the field and act as a Western Power’s Liaison Officer to the Department of Building and Energy (regulator).
- Manage, undertake, and support investigations into allegations (including the engagement and supervision of internal and externals resources) of regulatory non-compliance by electrical contractors. This involves among others;
- liaising closely with informants (if applicable) and the business to ensure the investigations are completed independently, effectively, and efficiently to ensure natural justice is provide to all individuals involved.
- obtaining expert evidence from specialist witnesses
- development and promulgation of effective and efficient investigation techniques through presenting training sessions, providing expert advice and leadership
- Management of the recording and reporting to external regulators (Building & Energy) on serious misconduct matters
- The reporting to senior management on outcomes of investigations, as required
- Liaise and support the business in the application of any process improvements identified from investigations
- Support the Maintaining of Western Power’s data base that records all incidents identified, action taken and results
- Preparing written submissions, briefs of evidence and recommendations of a high standard as required by Criminal and Civil Courts.
- Developing effective and relevant Relationship Management Plan with external stakeholders to support the provision of intelligence products to external departments.
About you (Do not remove or change this section)
We are seeking someone with experience and attributes that include:
- Investigations i.e.
- Diploma in Government Investigations or equivalent
- Certificate III Investigative Services or equivalent
- An experienced professional with sound knowledge and experience of at least 5+ years in undertaking and completing investigations into alleged breaches, fraud, corruption, and serious misconduct.
- Strong customer focus and ability to build relationships and networks both internal and external to the business
- Strong conceptual and analytical ability including the ability to critically analyse information and concepts and communicate recommendations
- Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate with different stakeholders
- Demonstrated experience in investigation report writing
- Strong research analytical skills and excellent attention to detail
- Very strong negotiation, influencing and conflict resolution skills at all levels
- Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team
