Network Investigation Technician – Kewdale – Permanent

The Network Investigation Technician is predominantly responsible for working on the installation and commissioning of Ring Main Unit automation and reclosers as well as conducting technical investigation of network automation faults, to investigate, identify and resolve moderate to complex network issues associated with the LV and HV network as well as conducting network switching operations.

Perform commissioning, maintenance and fault repairs to distribution automation switchgear and alternative sources of supply, communicate with key stakeholders and adapt to a changing work environment to complete programs in a safe, reliable and efficient manner

Your Role in Action

  • Take personal accountability for safety in the work environment and ensure safe work practises are followed and a safe work environment maintained.
  • Understand and operate within Western Powers Occupational Health and Safety systems and reporting including identifying hazards, taking corrective action and reporting all incidents.
  • Plan for work in advance and adapt plan when resources are pulled away for other business priorities or system conditions change.
  • During times of escalated fault activity, maintain the integrity of the network with minimal loss of supply. Ensure prompt attendance to faults, isolating the system and taking steps to restore supplies and manage public access as appropriate to the fault type.
  • Progress process improvement initiatives to achieve optimal service delivery and safety initiatives by identifying and evaluating opportunities for performance improvement
  • Provide technical advice and support to internal and external crews and customers
  • Take personal accountability for work performance and be open to other contributions. Work cooperatively within the team and across Western Power.
  • Provide a safe and structured upskilling of this position to the responsibilities and activities required at the Specialist A level.

What Makes You a Great Fit

  • “A” grade WA Electrical Workers License endorsed for Electrical Fitting / Mechanic – essential
  • Possess Cert III (ESI Distribution / Transmission Overhead / Power Systems Distribution Cable Jointing) and/or Electrical Trade Certificate and hold a current WA Electrical Workers License.
  • Advanced technical experience within a particular discipline, preferably in the Networks business. Hold all appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency in accordance with the Energy Safety Act 2006.
  • Hold all appropriate industry licences or certificates of competency especially substation inspection, testing, maintenance and repair
  • Flexibility to work in a 24/7 environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work alone or within a team environment
  • Knowledge of field practices, procedures, engineering standards and regulations applicable to the Section and Stream.
  • Knowledge of distribution and transmission networks and supply requirements
