About the opportunity
Westgold Resources have an exciting opportunity for an experienced candidate to join the Environmental, Health & Safety team, Principal - Environmental Approvals.
Reporting into the Group Manager - Environment & Sustainability, the successful candidate will strategically support environmental approvals for Westgold's projects, maintaining strict legislative compliance, while managing risks and ensuring accurate documentation and communication.
This position will be offered on a permanent full-time basis at the Corporate Office centrally located in Perth CBD. Ad hoc travel to Westgold's operations will be required.
The role includes
- Support the development and execution of environmental approvals strategies for all new and expanding projects, securing all required regulatory approvals within agreed upon project timelines, ensuring all approvals align with the company's strategic growth objectives and legal obligations
- Implement a risk management framework for environmental approval, focusing on proactive identification and mitigation of potential delays, ensuring environmental solutions are integrated into operational planning
- Maintain consistent communication with key regulatory agencies to ensure proactive engagement and timely resolution of issues, fostering positive relationships to facilitate efficient approvals processes
- Oversee the planning and execution of environmental studies, ensuring all environmental studies provide accurate and reliable data to support approvals applications and ensuring all studies and surveys are completed within the agreed upon timeframe in the project execution plan
- Provide mentorship and guidance to environmental team members, focusing on enhancing technical expertise and regulatory knowledge, assisting to build a high-performing environmental team cable of effectively managing complex approvals processes
- Conduct site visits at least once per quarter per operational site to provide technical support, ensuring effective implementation of environmental management plans and procedures
- Maintain environmental approvals documentation and communication through a centralised system, robust processes and proactive monitoring ensuring all project-related documents are accurate and accessible
What do I need?
- Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science or Management
- 8+ years demonstrated experience in an environmental role within mining industry or government
- Demonstrated knowledge of State and Federal environmental legislation
- Demonstrated experience in preparing compliance reports and approvals documentation for submission to external agencies
- Undertake environmental audits and inspections to determine environmental performance
- Implementation of environmental monitoring programs and data analysis
- Commitment to environmental management, integrating good environmental management into everyday practices, influencing all personnel to do the same
- Facilitate the accomplishment of goals through establishing productive and constructive interpersonal relationships both internally and externally
