About the Role
The Group Product Manager role requires a dual focus. A focus on driving business outcomes and a focus on growing the capabilities of your direct reports.
As a Product leader within Big W X, you will own a Product portfolio, building capabilities that can be leveraged across the Big W and Woolworths ecosystem. You will be responsible for thought leadership and alignment of the future vision and product portfolio strategies in partnership with the Technology Delivery Managers and the Business Leadership team, influencing and generating movement across new processes through change management, reflecting and influencing decisions to ensure teams are set up for long-term success. You will partner with your team of Product Managers to assist them across the complex matrix interfacing across the wider Big W & Woolies ecosystem.
As a Leader in the Big W X ecosystem, you will lead a team of passionate empowered Product Managers and be responsible for growing and developing world-class Product Management capability within your Domain.

Core Capabilities / Responsibilities
- Thought leader and domain expert for eCommerce Operations, the GPM would define the strategic vision and direction for the Operations portfolio of capabilities, partnering with the wider Leadership team to ensure the product strategy aligns with business strategy.
- Create business cases and recommendations on investment priorities, and ensure traceability and reporting of benefits leveraging data and analytics to create actionable insights.
- Manage a complex matrix of stakeholders, across stores, replenishment, planning, commercial, customer hub (contact centre), 3rd party partners and more, to deliver seamless customer and team experiences, remove impediments and make judgements and tradeoffs which sometimes require difficult conversations.
- Manages the team within their domain, recruiting, onboarding, developing careers and coaching world-class product talent with a focus on improving overall team performance, ensuring their team has the right tools and processes in place to do their best work every day, delivering on value to the customer and outcomes for the business.
- Fosters and maintains key relationships with leaders within the Big W X Leadership team and across Big W to ensure we are building capabilities that scale, and providing transparency and alignment around key priorities.
- Collaborate with other GPMs to deliver a unified road map that delivers on the strategic ambitions and act as a leader in the Product Chapter.
- Partner with the Technology Delivery Managers to ensure the Product vision & target outcomes translate to high value end to end delivery.
- Establish a “one-team” and “joint accountability” mindset between product, design, technology and store operations, guiding these team members to deliver maximum value in the most efficient and effective way possible.
- Provide advice on building trust and managing professional relationships across stakeholders that others value the work that your squads are doing.
About you (Experience)
- Demonstrated experience with a diverse portfolio that covers fulfilment capabilities including pick, pack, ship, sourcing & order orchestration, microservices development, customer service inc. chatbots experiences, last mile (delivery & pick up) services and operational applications.
- An obsession for customers with a passion to solve problems in ways our customers will love.
- The ability to influence teams to build better products with a constant dedication to understand, question, and improve the experiences for our customers and team.
- Demonstrated ability to evangelise product & design thinking with stakeholders and product managers through facilitation.
- Conceptualising complex technical solutions into human experiences to demonstrate the context of the cohorts’ that will benefit and the value they will derive.
- Demonstrated experience managing and leading Product Management teams, developing careers and building top talent in a large retail environment.
- Ability to understand, align with and simplify complex technical architectures to provide strategic input into product direction.
- Demonstrated experience in direct line management, managing Product Managers with varying experience levels.
- Demonstrated experience leading multiple streams of work with a focus on outcomes, not output.
- Experience of last mile fulfilment activities is desirable in a retail or logistics environment.
- Experience in a high-growth software product organisation with a focus on value delivery and continuous innovation at pace.
- Experience working with stakeholders and executives in a large retail environment.
- Experience working with 3rd party partners and integration with their platforms.
