What are we looking for?
WooliesX is seeking an experienced Technology Lead to lead the Gecko squad for our Subscriptions business. The Tech Lead will partner closely with the squad’s Product Manager to develop the technical strategy and development roadmap to deliver customer and business outcomes. Leading a team of engineers, QA/test engineers, designers and BAs, this role is charged with creating a leading search service to power Australia’s leading supermarket with significant growth plans.
Tech Leads will work in a team of 3-5 engineers, a Product Manager, BA and QAs/test engineers to uplift the online platform that powers Australia’s leading supermarket with significant growth plans.
Tech Leads will be responsible for maintaining coding quality, design and implementation of new and agreed architectures etc. They will also participate in forums within the tribe to share knowledge, experience, best practices and collaboratively redefine the new architecture of the systems. The candidate will be expected to raise the standard of Engineering.

You don’t have to have worked in retail or with a big corporation, but you might have. Or you may have invested your talent in startups, digital SMEs or management consultancies. What you do need is proven track recording of leading innovative technology teams and contributing to a team to deliver great outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Partner closely with the Product Manager and Engineering Manager to develop the future vision for subscriptions
- Lead on technical delivery of the squad, from designing solutions to deploying them and ensuring correct operation.
- Develop high quality, scalable and performant solutions.
- Work collaboratively with Product Managers, designers, BAs, QAs and other Engineers.
- Identify talent, assist in recruiting and onboarding new engineers and build strong teams.
- Coach, mentor and help the engineers in the team to improve their skills.
- Coordinate with other Tech Leads and the architecture team on best practice and ensure all squads are aligned.
- Determine root cause for the most complex software issues and develop practical, efficient, and permanent technical solutions.
We need you to have
- Strong tech leadership experience.
- Strong experience in modern engineering practices and disciplines.
- Ability to stay calm in challenging circumstances and work through problems methodically.
- Ability to question decisions and challenge the status quo.
- Detail-oriented mindset
- Good understanding of Agile & Lean leadership and delivery principles. Provide input to team processes.
- Strong experience developing applications following microservice architectures
Technical Skills
- Excellent .NET skills including C#, .NET Core
- Solid experience in Unit Testing Principles
- Strong experience in microservice architecture
- Always-on microservice architecture
- Strong MS SQL Server including performance optimisation
- Strong Javascript, jQuery
- Solid experience with REST APIs
- Strong experience with event streaming, service bus or message queues (Azure Event Hubs, Kafka, RabbitMQ or similar)
- Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, DevOps, automation
- Strong understanding of web security (OWASP TOP10, etc.)
- Strong Azure experience or another cloud provider
- Experience with architecting and setting up QA automation
It would be nice if you had
- Working with Docker containers & Terraform pipelines
- Experience with NoSql databases such as MongoDB/CosmosDB/Redis
- Experience with javascript frameworks such as Angular or React
- Castle Windsor or another IoC container
